Album Drop: This Week’s New Releases, From !!! To Ra Ra Riot

It’s Tuesday, aka New Music Day. And let me tell you, girl, this week is the jammiest! Shine up those dancin’ shoes because my favorite psychedelic party band !!! (pronounced “chk chk chk”) has a new album out and it is all kinds of fun. Ra Ra Riot proves three is the magic number with their rad new release. Fantasia isn’t just bringin’ the drama in real life; her R&B record lays it out. Margaret Cho duets with some stellar songbirds. Katy Perry pops some more bubble gum and Usher unleashes some B sides. So, get those headphones on because you’re going to wanna rock out after the jump. Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: Peter Thomas Roth Complexion Clearing Pads

As if bikini waxes weren’t inherently embarrassing enough, some of us (read “me”) may or may not have ingrown hair situations that make the whole thing all the more uncomfortable. Perhaps in an effort to put me out of my awkward misery, one of the lovely wax ladies at The Skin Spa suggested Peter Thomas Roth complexion pads to solve the problem. Skeptical though I was of using an acne product so near my lady parts, desperation is a great motivator and I gave it a shot. Awesome. The pads work as well on ingrowns as they do on acne and far better than, for example, Bliss’ ingrown hair pads, my former favorites. [$36, Peter Thomas Roth, Sephora] Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: Tarte Lip Stain

At first swipe, we had high hopes for Tarte’s Natural Lip Stain. Lust, the color we tested, had an appropriately sultry name and glided on with a practiced sort of ease, moisturizing as it went. Unfortunately, the honeymoon period soon disappeared and we were left with nothing but faint vestiges of the relationship we’d begun a mere hour before. If you want really expensive pigmented Chapstick, this is the product for you, but don’t get into the relationship looking for it to last. [$24, Tarte, Sephora] Keep reading »

Eley Kishimoto For Anthropologie Looks Like Maternity Wear

We love an Anthropologie designer collaboration as much as the next girl, but the newly released Eley Kishimoto collection is a dud. Cheaper fabrics don’t seem to do justice to Eley Kishimoto’s usually cute prints and shapes, and all the clothes veer pretty intensely towards maternity wear. The line is available in the U.K. and a handful of U.S. outposts right now. That said, you’re not missing much. Click through for a look at the lackluster options. [Fashionista] Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: Gigi Brazilian Bikini Wax

I’ve tried waxing my lady regions before. It didn’t go well. There were burns and blood, and I threw a few things. That was a few months ago, and it prompted me to seek out Irina, a lovely Eastern European woman of epic bikini waxing skill. But apparently time does heal all wounds and traumas, because I decided to forgo the awkward squirming that comes with a relative stranger being so close to my lady parts and give the home waxing another go. Sorry, Irina, but I won’t be coming back to your too-well-lit chamber of horrors. If you’re up for the DIY waxing challenge, I recommend GiGi’s Brazilian bikini wax. Don’t let the odd mint green color put you off. This stuff’s microwaveable, doesn’t require strips, and works really, really well. That said, there are a few things you should be prepared for… Keep reading »

Anna Sui For Target/Gossip Girl Is A Mixed (But Mostly Cute) Bag

The day you’ve all been waiting for is imminent: Anna Sui‘s “Gossip Girl”-inspired line for Target is available to the public this Sunday. We weaseled our way into a sneak preview this week though, and we’ve got the lowdown on how the collection looks in real life. As is to be expected, there are a handful of hits and a few definite misses.

We loved a bunch of the Blair-esque pieces with their sweet but restrained detailing. While Vanessa’s clothing group was mostly far too ’70s and polyester-y for us and Serena’s was rather cute, even if most of it didn’t look much like Serena’s style at all. (One Serena-inspired dress appeared to have teeth around the neck. We were scared.) Finally, the Jenny stuff ranged from adorable (like the dress at left) to tacky (check out the over-ripped, synthetic leggings after the jump and you’ll know what we’re talking about).

More images and info after the jump. Keep reading »

We See Chick Flicks: Twilight

The minute my cousin and I realized we both read “Twilight”, we knew we had to make a date to see the movie…a very well planned date so we could get tickets before they sold out. I might be the only person on the planet that thought this, but I couldn’t really envision Robert Pattison as Edward Cullen. He just seemed too scrawny to me. But he proved me wrong! He looked so sexy on screen and had the perfect build to play Edward. I’m sure most of the girls in the theater experienced their first pitter pat down there when he was onscreen. But Pattison wasn’t the only eye candy to be had during “Twilight.” I liked Emmett Cullen’s (Kellan Lutz) hip hop, jock swagger. And Jacob Black’s (Taylor Lautner) boyish looks were dreamy. What We Thought Of Sex And The City

After this IM, we’re seriously not saying the words “Sex and the City” for a very, very, very long time. Cross our hearts and hope to die! Our impressions over IM, after the jump. Oh, and there are spoilers! Keep reading »
