Wait, I thought the GOP attached nodes onto all white male Republicans’ balls to deliver electric shocks as soon as their lips start to form the words “rape” and “pregnancy”? What happened? How did Rep. Trent Franks dodge that?!

At a House Judiciary Committee hearing today, Rep. Franks of Arizona said his ban on abortions after 20 weeks does not need an exception for rape and incest because pregnancy as a result from rape is rare. “The incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low,” Dr. Franks announced. “Two years ago, my son Will, then a college freshman, told my wife, Jane, and me that he is gay. He said he’d known for some time, and that his sexual orientation wasn’t something he chose; it was simply a part of who he is. Jane and I were proud of him for his honesty and courage. We were surprised to learn he is gay but knew he was still the same person he’d always been. The only difference was that now we had a more complete picture of the son we love.”

This is a section of an editorial by Republican Senator Rob Portman that was published in The Columbus Dispatch on Friday, announcing that he has changed his hardline stance against gay marriage in light of the fact that this son, Will, is gay. “I’ve come to the conclusion that for me, personally, I think this is something that we should allow people to do, to get married, and to have the joy and stability of marriage that I’ve had for over 26 years. That I want all of my children to have, including our son, who is gay,” he told CNN in a follow-up interview. Keep reading »

We’re Breaking Up: Republican Who Tweeted Racist Remarks About Trayvon Martin During The Super Bowl

Todd Kincannon

Dear Todd Kincannon,

I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but we’re breaking up. You’re the former executive director of the your state’s Republican Party. I can appreciate a strong fiscal policy. You live in South Carolina. I hear Charleston is lovely at any time of year. You know how to use Twitter. That’s always a plus for a social media user like myself.

But then you tweeted a whole buttload of racist tweets about Trayvon Martin, the unarmed black teenager who was shot to death last year.  And that shit ain’t cool. Keep reading »

Republican Kelly Clarkson Says She’s Voting For Obama — And 18 Other Celebrity Endorsements

‘Tis the season for celebrity political endorsements, and just yesterday comes another one — this time from Kelly Clarkson. Kelly says that while she considers herself a Republican, she can’t abide by Mitt Romney’s anti-gay marriage stance, and has decided to support Obama. Additionally, she said, “I’ve been reading online about the debates and I’m probably going to vote for Obama again … I can’t support Romney’s policies as I have a lot of gay friends and I don’t think it’s fair they can’t get married.”

Additionally, she voiced concern over women’s rights issues. “I’m not a hardcore feminist but we can’t be going back to the ’50s,” she said.

Last year, Clarkson voiced her support for Ron Paul, but then retracted it after it was found that Paul was linked to several racist and homophobic pamphlets. “I am really sorry if I have offended anyone. Obviously that was not my intent. I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women’s rights, men’s rights, white/black/purple/orange rights,” she said.

Big news in science land: A new study from UCLA’s Department of Psychology has found that Republican women have more feminine facial features than their Democratic counterparts. Researchers examined the facial features of women in Congress and rated them based on adherence to standards of “gender-typical femininity.” Those faces were then judged by students, who were asked to guess which political party each face belonged to. The students were apparently, surprisingly, accurate in matching faces that ranked high in femininity with conservative politics and those with more masculine features as more liberal.

Okay, maybe not his blood — but definitely his tax returns. The porn broker took out full page ads in The Washington Post and USA Today, soliciting information on Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s financials. Romney has released tax returns for 2011 and 2010, but has repeatedly stated that he will not make available any additional tax information.

Flynt’s offer comes at a perfect time: earlier in the week, an anonymous source claimed he had stolen several of Romney’s past tax returns, and was holding the information ransom for $1 million dollars. Perhaps they’ll link up.

This isn’t the first time the Hustler publisher has offered cash for political information. An avowed Democrat, Flynt similarly offered money for information about Republican sex scandals during President Clinton’s term. [WPTV]
