Television always gets a little glum this time of year—way too many shows have wrapped up until 2010. Lucky for us, there’s the season finales of “Nip/Tuck” and “So You Think You Can Dance,” not to mention a “Vampire Diaries” marathon and the hilarious “SNL” special, “A Very Gilly Christmas.” Holler. Remote Control: What You’ll Want To Watch The Week Of December 7th 2009

The holiday season is never the best in terms of television and, really, what other terms would we be talking about here? There are far too many reruns and new episodes tend to be Christmas-themed, which is just annoying. Not to mention the commercials that suggest you buy your loved ones cars as gifts? Really, who does that? But have no fear, there is some great TV coming up this week, from the season finale of “Top Chef” to the second episode of our new fave “Jersey Shore” — [Which I will be liveblogging in between doing shots of Jagermeister. Kidding! About the Jager. -- Editor] — to Barbara Walters sitting down with the 10 most fascinating folks of the year. Check out previews after the jump. Keep reading »

Remote Control: What You’ll Want To Watch The Week Of November 23rd 2009

It’s Thanksgiving week, and you know what I’m thankful for? My grotesquely oversized television. And thankfully, there’s lots of amazing stuff to watch this week, from the new show “Find My Family” that’ll make you cry like a baby, to the season finale of “Dancing With The Stars,” which will have you standing up and cheering—well, at least if Kelly Osbourne wins. But you know what I’m most looking forward to when it comes to the boob tube? Friday’s “Beverly Hills, 90210” marathon, “Chillin’ With Dylan,” on SoapNet. Don’t even bother calling me during the day, mkay? Keep reading »

An Ode To “Remote Control”

MTV’s first foray out of music videos came in 1987, when host Ken Ober launched a hysterical hybrid of sketch comedy meets game show called “Remote Control.” For five seasons, in a studio tricked out to look like his mother’s basement, Kenny carried out his lifelong dream of hosting a game show. Contestants sat in arm chairs with seat belts buckled around them, and got ejected, recliner-style, out the back (with their chairs) when they were eliminated.

Kenny went on to produce “Mind of Mencia” and “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” but has clicked the off button for the final time. He was found dead yesterday at his home in Los Angeles. This loss has us looking back at his debut effort, a show which reshaped a network and shaped us in a lot of ways. Keep reading »

Remote Control: What You’ll Want To Watch The Week Of October 19th 2009

As it gets progressively colder and more blustery by the day, your television is probably seeming far more appealing than it did in the glory days of summer. Luckily, there’s tons of great stuff for you to watch. This week, Wil Wheaton returns to the small screen, the “Glee” kids bust a move, the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” say adios, and “My Super Sweet 16″ gets a horrifying makeover. Keep reading »
