The 2013 Grammys were a weird affair, no? “Hosted” by LL Cool J, who was barely seen, and featuring way more musical performances than actual awards, the Grammys are a bizarre fete. Nobody really thinks they’re that on the ball or relevant, but still, we watch. This year, theere was fashion drama, as the Grammys sent out a dress code beforehand to make sure that nobody showed too much boob or butt during the broadcast. I can safely say there was no major nipple action, but after three and a half hours, I was glad it was over, if only so I could stop making that throw up noise every time fun. was on the screen.
Let’s look at some clothes, okay?
Ahh, the SAG Awards. The only awards show I mute for the first three or so minutes until the awful, self-absorbed “My name is BLAH BLAH BLAH and I am an ACTOR” introductions are finished. Last night’s show was fairly mellow and expected — Anne Hathaway was typically breathless and faux humble about winning for “Les Mis” and Claire Danes was a total dork — and the fashions on the red carpet were rather tame as well. Some highlights: Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence’s dresses did right by their breasts, Jane Lynch wore her best gown ever, Claire Danes’ goth lipstick would totally get Angela Chase’s approval, and January Jones has a dinner napkin you can borrow. Maybe the 2013 Golden Globes is a good omen of what’s to come this year, fashion wise. When they were bad, they weren’t all that bad, and when they were good, well, they were amazing. Stand out fashion stars on Sunday night’s Golden Globes red carpet included Kerry Washington, whose delicate shift played nicely off her modern hairstyle, and Katharine McPhee, who took a daring plunge into sexy town in all black. There was a lot to praise last night, and we’re hoping that as award’s season continues, we’ll see more great looks from these stars.
These were our favorites, but don’t forget to share yours in the comments!
Better late than never! The Critics Choice Awards were given out on Thursday night, kicking off award season. (The People’s Choice Awards were earlier in the week, but let’s face it, those are kind of a joke.) A wrong was righted when Ben Affleck, woefully dissed for a nod by the Academy, took home the best director award; the adorable and insanely talented Quvenzhane Wallis won a prize for her stunning work in “Beasts of the Southern Wild”; and there were a whole lot of beautiful (and a few WTF) gowns on the red carpet. Let’s review the latter…
Ding ding ding! It’s officially awards season. Seems like the last one just ended, but hey, you can never have too many awards. Eventually, they will start giving out softball team trophies that say stuff like “Most Improved” and “Team Player” or whatever.
Tuesday night was the National Board Of Review Awards. The National Board Of Review has a fairly ominous name, but in actuality, they just review stuff and are a nonprofit aimed at facilitating the film industry. “Zero Dark Thirty” apparently swept in all categories except for “Best Male Lead,” which was taken by Bradley Cooper (who is somehow turning into an actual thespian).
In any case, you don’t care about a non-televised awards show. You just want to know what they’re wearing. Let’s commence…
New Year’s Eve is considered one of the biggest party nights of the year, which is why it’s also generally considered one of the most annoying nights of the year. So as you can imagine, only the most irritating celebrities turned out for very public New Year’s parties in Las Vegas and New York. (We’re looking right at you, Kim and Kanye.)
But what were they wearing? Click through to find out.
