And last but certainly not least, as basically flawless as all the stars looked in their gowns and baubles last night, their hair and makeup was equally as on point. I loved Kerry Washington and Margot Robbie deep wine-colored lips, Kate Hudson, Sandra Bullock and Jessica Biel’s Veronica Lake-inspired side-swept waves and Olivia Wilde’s vaguely retro cat eye. Oh hi, are you tired of Oscar fashion yet? Of course not! Vanity Fair‘s annual Oscar party is honestly more of a fashion parade than even the Academy Awards, which only a select group gets to attend, because everyone and their mom and their neighbor and their neighbor’s waxer is invited. I mean, if you didn’t get an invite, you should probably be pretty devastated. Click through to see everyone from Taylor Swift, Reese Witherspoon and Amy Poehler, to Diane Kruger, Miranda Kerr and Zooey Deschanel, as well as a couple of choice outfit changes from Lupita Nyong’o, Kate Hudson and Jennifer Lawrence.
Jennifer Lawrence and Lupita Nyong’o fight over Oscar! Matthew and Camilla makeout! John Travolta studies and then retains absolutely no memory of how to pronounce Idina Menzel’s name! All that and more backstage snaps from last night’s Academy Awards…
I gotta say, with the exception of Whoopi Goldberg’s weird interpretation of Julia Roberts’ Golden Globes ensemble, there was not one person at last night’s Academy Awards who made a major fashion faux pas. (See all the red carpet arrival photos here!) I could not assemble a worst dressed list if I tried. Instead, I’ll just tell you which stars left me totally slack-jawed, from Kate Hudson’s drapey, capey situation and Lupita’s powder blue Cinderella moment, to Jared Leto’s red bow tie and Angelina Jolie’s, well, everything. WOOHOO! It’s Oscar time! I’ll be updating this gallery ALL NIGHT with photos of the celebs as they walk the red carpet. What will Lupita Nyong’o wear? Exactly how will Jared Leto’s mane of luscious ombre locks be styled? Will anyone dare to ask Cate Blanchett about Woody Allen? Keep checking back for photos! And follow Katie at @TheFrisky and me at @xoamelia for all of our Twitter commentary.
The big night is tonight — the Academy Awards! — but for the independent film industry, last night’s Indie Spirit Awards are an even more meaningful occasion, as they gather to celebrate the films that made it to the screen despite very little funds or backing. Interestingly, all of last night’s big winners are frontrunners in their categories at tonight’s Academy Awards, with Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey (“Dallas Buyers Club”), Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine”), and Lupita Nyong’o and “12 Years A Slave” very likely to take home gold men. But fashion-wise, things couldn’t be more different. Saving the gowns for later, the women at last night’s Indie Spirit Awards went a little crazy with color, hem-length, and prints, while some did away with dresses altogether. Click through to see who had the most effortless hippie vibe, who is dressing like a newly single lady, and which actress is rumored to have worn her pit hair with pride…
Last night, the British held their version of the Oscars, awarding trophies to the year’s best films and performances, with “12 Years a Slave” and “Gravity” both winning big. But let’s get to what’s important … THE CLOTHES. Who is most likely to be mistaken for Tilda Swinton? Who inspired my desire to motorboat? Click on to find out!
I’m always surprised by how many musicians I have never heard of attend the Grammy Awards. Am I out of touch? Should I know who these many single-named singers are and what they’re famous for? What is a Nadeea or a Vaja and a Huda? Fearing that these lovely ladies are actually superstars and I’m failing at being a pop culture expert by not knowing who they are, I’ve included them all in this gallery of the many, many famous faces who walked the red carpet at last night’s Grammy Awards. Click through to see what everyone wore!
Y’all, I have a new style crush and it is serious. Her work in “12 Years A Slave” is astounding and more than worthy of winning her an Academy Award, but I can’t stop obsessing over actress Lupita Nyong’o's incredible fashion sense. She can wear anything! Black, white, every damn color of the rainbow – name it, she looks amazing in it. I mean, I’m so crazy about this girl, I made it my mission to track down every dang outfit she’s worn in public in the short amount of time she’s been in the public eye. Thirty-one outfits later, I’ve concluded that she can basically do no wrong.
