Hits & Misses: The Best And Worst Of Beauty At The 2012 Met Ball

The Met Ball is, in many ways, bigger and brighter than all of the awards shows combined. While the Academy honors excellence in film, the gala honors glamour in its purest form. Each year there’s a “topic” of celebration — last night extolled the parallels of Miuccia Prada to the late great Elsa Schiaparelli; last year’s subject was the inimitable Lee Alexander McQueen — and each year it’s up to the young and the beautiful to bring it. Good sense and humility takes a night off, and the most illustrious names in both the silver screen and the backstage dust off their boldest, most eye-catching, sometimes straight up cray looks. It is the Met Gala, after all, and if you’re not planning on blowing the roof off of the fashion stratosphere, then why bother going at all? Keep reading »

Katy Perry is an unexpected addition to our Well Played list with a serious departure from her trademark candy-coated-crack styling. I’m kind of feeling the dark purple hair, and this Temperley London dress is just stunning on Katy, so much so that I’m even willing to forgive her inch-thick pancake makeup. A nude lip with this look would have pulled it together seamlessly. But I have to ask: what’s with the strap hanging off her shoulder? Girlfriend is practically begging for a wardrobe malfunction.

This week’s issue of New York magazine features a fascinating look at the high cost of celebrity culture. One major money area of celebrity life? Awards shows, where celebs swan around in couture gowns, dripping in jewels with perfect hair and makeup. It seems, though, that the more famous a celebrity, the less they actually pay for, as brands and designers clamor to be affiliated with famous faces. Take Charlize Theron’s head-turning look at the 2012 Golden Globes — and who paid for it…

The Screen Actors Guild Awards: The Bad!

It wasn’t all immaculately turned out Tilda Swintons and stunning Zoe Saldanas at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. No, there were some terrible fashions, too. And though some of these actresses may have won big at the SAGs, they definitely disappointed on the style front. Click through to find out who sagged at the SAGs.

The Good, The Bad & The WTF At The 2012 Critics’ Choice Awards

It’s no mistake that the Critics’ Choice Awards come the day after the People’s Choice Awards. Celebs who don’t win the popular vote can drown their sorrows in the idea that perhaps, perhaps the critics adore them. But while the People’s Choice was a slightly less formal affair, the Critics, well, the Critics we dress up for. Find out who fared well and who critically missed the mark…

The Good, The Bad & The Totally Meh At The Valentino Virtual Museum Launch

Thursday night, Sarah Jessica Parker, Courtney Love and a slew of other celebs turned out to fete legendary designer Valentino. They were also there to support the opening of his new virtual museum, the Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum, an online catalog of the designer’s many collections, available to anyone — to view, at least. This being high fashion, the clothes themselves are still prohibitively expensive, but last night’s turnout proved that just because you can buy something doesn’t mean you necessarily have the style chops to pull it off. See who succeeded, and who failed miserably, when it came to honoring Valentino’s divine talents.

Her Best Looks: Olivia Wilde

It’s common knowledge that Olivia Wilde is roughly one billion times more attractive than your average human being (i.e. me). The girl is ridic stunning – glossy dark hair, long bronzed limbs, sea green eyes, feline features, cheekbones sharp enough to cut glass … the list goes on. I also must applaud Olivia for her sartorial choices – I don’t think I’ve ever seen her look anything less than goddess-worthy. She’s often the most gorgeous girl on the red carpet, but most importantly, Olivia dresses to kill. Click through for 16 of her best looks — plus, after the jump, the best looks worn by Solange Knowles, Mila Kunis, and Kate Winslet! Keep reading »

The Good, The Bad & The WTF: The Q Awards

This past weekend, Brit music rag Q held its annual awards fest. There were new popsters (Jessie J) and old legends (Siouxsie Sioux) wandering around, and lots and lots of bad fashion. Let’s take a look, shall we?

The Good, Bad & The WTF: The Gucci Museum Opening

Fashion’s glitterati turned out earlier this week for the opening of the Gucci Museum in Florence, Italy. Honoring all things Gucci, the museum serves as a tribute to the Italian design house’s esteemed vision and sartorial genius. But were the opening night attendees as well-tailored as the clothing in the museum? Let’s take a look.
