Bright blues, radical reds and the perfect deep purple: They’re all shades we’re craving for our tresses this fall. That’s why we’ve assembled a gallery of boldly colored dyed hair as inspiration. From unnatural oranges to the starkest white, we’ve got the shades you crave.
One word of warning: In order to get any of the colors in this gallery, you’ll likely have to bleach your hair first, which can cause a great deal of damage and breakage to hair.
And tell us: If work and school didn’t care, what shade would you dye your hair?
I’m currently in the throes of growing my hair out, which requires patience, precision and a will of steel. It’s all I can do to not chop it all off into a pixie cut again, but then I remember that my ultimate goal is to have long, flowing hair, so I can do fun stuff to it. Fun stuff like dye it multiple pastel shades or a bright, bold color. Culling through these pretty pastel-flavored hair shots makes me practically itchy with glee. So while I sweat out the next year of hair growing to get my long waves back, I’ll be keeping these tacked up to my inspiration board.
Tell us: What’s the craziest color you’ve ever dyed your hair?
Goths are a very dark and secretive group — and they’d probably want to crawl up in a hole and die if they knew we were suggesting you emulate their makeup stylings. However, goth make up — in doses — is really awesome. Who doesn’t love a dark eye, or a dark lip, every once in a while? It’s so dramatic! We scoured Tumblr to find some images for gothy inspiration and came up with a few to get you on your way. The key with goth makeup seems to be eyeliner, eyeliner, eyeliner. Play around with it — use your eyeliner as an artist’s pencil, and have fun! It’s not life or death (even though some goths might have you believe otherwise).
You always want what you don’t have — and girls with pin-straight hair are often super envious of ladies with lots of curls. It stands to reason, too, that curly-haired girls aren’t always as appreciative of their ringlets and waves as they could be. But ladies, come on, curly hair is ah-maz-ing. You guys are so lucky. And if you’re still on the fence about it, we’ve got 15 real girls with real curls and waves to show you just how cool curls can be.
As it warms up, you’re going to want to consider getting your long hair off your neck. Why not a bun? A messy, upswept ‘do is the perfect antidote to sweaty weather. We’ve scoured the Internet for the best buns out there — for inspiration and ideas. Check ‘em out!
Even when I had long hair, I was terrible at braiding it, so I’m in complete awe of girls who have good braiding skills. We’ve assembled this gallery of real girls with awesome braiding skills, showing off their cool fishtails, Frenchies and everything in between. Check ‘em out and get inspired!
We’ve done some terrible things to our eyebrows in the past, but in recent years we’ve learned the key to great brows is leaving them alone. The less plucking, waxing and tweezing you do, generally, the better. Big brows are in –and hopefully are here to stay — and we’ve found some of the best eyebrows sported by real women. Click through to see their well-manicured brows in action.
Enough with the models and celebrities: we wanted to show you how real girls really look with some of our favorite hairstyles. First up: the super short ‘do. We scoured the web and found 35 girls rockin’ awesome variations on the pixie cut. Check out these looks for inspiration and that extra push to make a dramatic short cut.
If you came of age in the early 2000s, like I did, pop culture was strange—strangely plastic, that is. Britney Spears had the hottest body on earth, but she married a skeezebag and shaved her head. Paris Hilton had a sex tape, then a TV show and then everyone wanted to be her best friend. Hugh Hefner‘s bunny-girlfriends got their own show and then two of them spun off and started shows of their own.
All the way up to 2007, things were looking weird, when “Gossip Girl” debuted and Blake Lively‘s cleavage co-starred in every scene. Yes, indeed, the 2000s were the decade to be conventionally pretty, blonde, silicone, slick, PR-laden, lawyered up, and above all, fake.
Yes, 2009 sucked and we’re all glad that it’s over. But in 2009, pop culture had mercy on our souls. It couldn’t run on fumes anymore. People, one hopes, got bored. And so, against all odds, 2009 became the Year Of The Real Girl. Keep reading »
