Yesterday, we posted an Agent Provocateur corset with 2-inch spikes, saying we couldn’t imagine who would wear such a thing in public. We should have guessed one of pop’s ladies of the hour, because arrived and departed from last night’s Rated R CD release party in New York City wearing outfits with major weaponry attached. Have you seen “Precious” yet? It’s everything the buzz says it’s going to be: Gabby Sidibe plays Precious, who has been raped by her father and had two children by him, and Mo’Nique plays the abusive mother who calls Precious the most vile names and throws a TV set at her head. Incest, physical violence, verbal abuse … it’s a heavy one.
So I’ve been asking myself why I watched the movie in a Jersey City (New Jersey) theater, sitting next to a woman who held her toddler son in her lap the whole time. Just how recently out-of-the-womb was this little chubster? Young and socially unaware enough that when the movie was over, he walked straight over to my Diet Coke and touched it, putting his germy little hands all over my straw. Maybe 3 years old? Rihanna‘s Rated R album hits stores in 20 days (yes, I’m counting), and a video for the new song “Wait Your Turn” just came out! I feel like I might be getting a little old to be so excited about something like this, but I can’t help it — it’s been too long since RiRi came out with new material! And this song is good.
