The Overall Trend Affects Jessica Biel’s Vogue Shoot

Jessica Biel In Vogue

Remember when we got all hot and bothered about the idea that overalls were coming back after spotting them in various spring collections? Well, our worst fears have come to pass, as Jessica Biel is sporting a pair of Ralph Lauren’s farm chic denim in the February issue of Vogue. (Oh well, at least they’re more comfy than, say, corsets.) A few more shots from the cover shoot, after the jump. [Vogue]

Oh Dear God, Overalls Are In Style

Ralph Lauren runway

Sweet Jesus, overalls are officially “in.” Ralph Lauren (runway shot above), Jean Paul Gaultier, Roberto Cavalli and other designers sent models down the runway sporting versions of the popular farm wear that ranged from questionable all-leather numbers to one quite unfortunate overall-inspired metallic evening gown. Now, don’t get me wrong: I love a comfy overall and I certainly do agree that they look adorable. On toddlers. I may have been known to sport an overall or two as recently as college, maybe even after that, here and there. But there comes a time in a grown-ass woman’s life when she’s simply a bit too mature to pull off certain looks, know what I’m saying? That’s why God created sexy jumpsuits for, I guess, you know, to satisfy that onesie urge. Much like those clogs that came clumping down spring runways, this is a look I’ll have to pass on. But you tell me: After it trickles down and Topshop and H&M and everyone else inevitably starts trying to sell you the trend, will you buy in? [Style.com]

Check Out Ralph Lauren’s New Olympic Uniforms

Ralph Lauren debuted his new uniforms for the US Olympic team during “The Today Show” on Wednesday morning, and they’re nothing less than pure Americana style. Surprised? The closing ceremony looks mix a newsboy feel (like his spring runway show) with hard core alpine boots, while the design on the medal stand collection is all one of a kind, “like a snowflake.” How precious. You can buy pieces now on Nike.com, and even personalize your own polo, so now everyone’s an Olympic athlete. Just don’t get caught with a bong in your hands.

Ralph Lauren’s Photoshop FAIL Is Not An Isolated Incident

Ralph Lauren's Photoshop FAIL Is Not An Isolated Incident

Despite expressing dismay that the previous ad—featuring an extremely whittled-down Filippa Hamilton—had made it to print and that it didn’t represent their “image,” it’s not the only example of Ralph Lauren execs being a bit overzealous with Photoshop. Check out this ad from a Ralph Lauren window display in Sydney. Mmm, doesn’t she look hungry and chic? [Photoshop Disasters]

Photoshop FAIL: Ralph Lauren Model Says She Was Fired For Being Too Fat

On Friday we told you about the controversy surrounding a Ralph Lauren print ad which featured a photograph of a model that was Photoshopped to s**t, whittling her waist to bizarre thinness. Ralph Lauren reps have since said the photo was an accident and doesn’t represent their brand ideals. Well, that model, Filippa Hamilton, appeared on “Today” this morning to blow up Ralph’s spot even more, claiming the brand fired her for being too heavy and not being able to “fit” in the clothes anymore. Check out her interview, above.

Today’s Lady News: Ralph Lauren Model Loses Stomach In Tragic Airbrushing Accident

airbrushed Ralph Lauren ad
  • Ralph Lauren model Filippa Hamilton has a stomach, really she does! Don’t let this airbrushed-to-sh*t Ralph Lauren ad on the left fool you. [Daily Mail]—At least the company apologized, sort of. A spokesman for Ralph Lauren said “we are responsible for the poor imaging and retouching that resulted in a very distorted image of a woman’s body.”
  • A transsexual with gender dysphoria in England who has been living as a woman for the past 10 years has been fighting since 2006 for the UK’s National Health Service to pay for her breast implants. The woman, known only as “C,” has already undergone hormone treatments to become more feminine but said a boob job is essential to her identity. [UK Telegraph]

Do Heels And Boyfriend Jeans Ever Look Fantastic?

    Ralph Lauren runway

It was “Grapes of Wrath” meets “Simply Ballroom” at Ralph Lauren, where Depression-era coveralls and distressed boyfriend jeans were paired with shiny, strappy heels. (Although the closing act—a metallic overalls-inspired dress—took the theme waaaay too far.) Not sure how we feel about the whole dainty shoes and baggy jeans look—the proportions always end up looking weird in real life, no? Then again, we’re totally inspired by the pageboy caps and blazers and dressing in drag in general. But screw waiting for next spring. We’re pretty sure we can put something similar together at the local thrift store.

What Does Fashion Taste Like? Vodka, According To NYC Bar Local 138

    marc jacobs cocktail

Fad drugs may come and go, but drinking will always stay in style. Which is perhaps why NYC bar Local 138 asked fashion designers to concoct cocktails for its summer drink menu. Marc Jacobs created an updated mint julep which he called the Marc Mint Martini, while Ralph Lauren made a rum punch with fresh crushed raspberries and lime juice. Tory Burch’s bevvie, the Tikki Tini, is the loudest with blends of tropical fruits like mango and pineapple. If you’re in New York this summer, give them a taste at this bar in the Lower East Side, where you just might overdose on hipness if not from your drink. [NY Daily News]

    Hats On Or Hats Off

    Marc Jacobs hats

“Woman who love to play with fantasy are naturally disposed to a hat,” explains Alison Waters, a hat-wearer who lives in Melbourne, Australia. “A hat makes you feel marvelous and lifts your mood instantly. It’s an accessory that completes everything, not just the face.” In fact, Alison never leaves the house without one of her 160 hats atop her head. This Sunday is Easter (if you celebrate), and the only day that might be more associated with hats might be the Kentucky Derby. While wearing a hat is no longer a requirement in society—the only time I wear a hat is when I go to a baseball game or when it’s chilly outside—designers are still putting hats on the runway, season after season. If you’re planning on sporting a bonnet this Sunday, check out some options after the jump, and let us know whether you’d wear them in the comments.
