Rad Hourani Is Stunning, As Usual

OK, so I’m biased: As someone who wears fairly androgynous black clothes about 350 days a year, Canadian designer Rad Hourani makes the exact kind of clothes I want to live in. But I’m not alone. Yesterday, editors and buyers alike were impressed by the expertly cut, all-black collection of leather, zippers, layered knits and jackets with a sprinkling of sequins thrown in for good measure. Backstage, MAC makeup artist Hung Vanngo explained that in keeping with Rad’s ideal, he was creating a unique, stark look. He used MAC Studio Sculpt foundation to mute out the male and female models’ faces and even filled in their lips with a creamy flesh-toned concealer. “It’s his most grown-up collection,” Hung told me. “So this look will be stunning with the clothes.” My sentiments exactly. How To Get Ridiculously Perfect-Looking Skin

I’m pretty dang obsessed with Rad Hourani for making lots of hard-edged, androgynous black clothes that look good on girls and boys. Yesterday, the show did not disappoint, but what I’m really here to talk about is how pitch-perfect the makeup was. The obvious go-to would be lots of dark liner or purple-stained lips but MAC makeup artist Hung Vanngo had a fresh idea — to contrast the rock star zippers and gorgeous metallic accents with the dewiest, most luminescent skin I’ve ever seen up close. Hung told me he wanted the skin to look healthy and here is his secret weapon: MAC Strobe Cream. It’s loaded with green tea and other antioxidants to perk up dull skin and contains all kinds of iridescent particles that reflect the light in a way that’s glowy — as opposed to Paris Hilton glittery (yuck) — and blinds anyone gazing upon your beautiful mug to any and all imperfections. In short, it’s the easiest way to fake perfect skin ever. Just use it as a primer, dab a bit of concealer around your nose and any problem areas, and you’re done. That’s it. Now get outta here. Rad (Hourani) Clothes On The Cheap

We already love the young, Paris-based designer Rad Hourani’s aesthetic–which, as WWD puts it best, is all about “experimental cuts and hard-edged rocker-Goth vibe.” The $500 to $5,000 price tags? Eh, not so much. So we’re completely overjoyed to hear that Rad by Rad Hourani is coming to a store (or website) near us soon. The diffusion line will be a more reasonable $100 to $300, and, even cooler, is made up of angular cuts in a gritty black, white, and charcoal palette and designs that are unisex. (Although, it would take an unusually stylish man to rock some of the looks.) Whether it will be more of a hit with the boys or girls, we’re totally feeling the drapey yet structured feel that’s so reminiscent of Comme des Garcons, Ann Demeulemeester, and, of course, Rad himself, served up at much lower prices.
