It’s a truth universally acknowledged that Rachel Roy has a pretty damn good grasp on style — the fashion fixture is always right on trend without becoming a victim of it. Naturally, the same could be said of our Amelia, who totally beat Rachel to the chambray shirt, yellow pants one-two punch. Damn right! Anyway, this is a killer look on both ladies and in both variations, and I’d bet money on the fact that some of you want to try it out, too. I maintain that I absolutely could not pull this off, so I’m really, really jealous of those who can. Who knows? Maybe I’ll give it a shot one of these days… Snag Rachel’s chic, breezy style (and, by proxy, a little bit of Amelia’s too) after the jump. Sidenote: pair this outfit with a super-bright lipstick for a ballsy spring look that really pops. Keep reading »

I’m sorry, trendy girls, for what I am about to say. But your pajamas-as-daywear thing? It’s a stupid look. A very, very comfortable look, to be sure. (I am a professional blogger and I know of what I speak!) But me and everyone else who sees you wearing pajama bottoms and a top out to dinner at Chez Frommage thinks, Why didn’t she get dressed? Rachel Roy’s Man Repeller To The Rescue!

Raise your hand if you’ve ever put together an outfit you love, but that a guy in your life just hasn’t, well, understood? All of you? Thought so. The fact is, men sometimes just don’t get women’s fashion. Such is the concept behind Rachel Roy’s latest online ad campaign — what if you want to repel dudes with your fashion choices or at least ensure you find the one who loves your style? Rachel’s in-house Man Repelling Expert, Leandra Medine, to the rescue! Too many men beating down your door? Dress in tons of layers! Got a blind date and nothing to wear? Don a onesie! Just survived a breakup? Let your freak-flag fly in an explosion of prints! I was already a fan of Rachel Roy’s fashion line, but am an even bigger supporter now thanks to this quirky campaign; I wonder what the Man Repeller would recommend for a gal in the middle of a sex sabbatical? Check out three man repeller looks, after the jump! [Rachel Roy] Keep reading »

Rachel Roy Talks Philanthropy

“I always try to give back with everything I do. The idea of not doing everything in your power for other people is crazy to me. I learned it from my parents. Having children of my own I know the importance of having a safe place for them to go and learn. [The Westchester Children's Museum] will give children the opportunity to nurture curiosity and enhance knowledge.”

Rachel Roy explains her commitment to philanthropy and her passion for the Westchester Children’s Museum, which will be located in the historic Rye Playland Bathhouses in New York, and will open in late 2011. Keep reading »

And The Prize Goes To … How To Make Jeans And A T-Shirt Fab

Last week, we asked for your best advice for taking jeans and a T-shirt from casual to fab in exchange for Rachel Roy’s Streamers & Spring Garden. Mad props to all who entered because you all definitely know how to express your personal style. But there could be only one winner. We think Venuswingsloved had the best advice for getting your look and attitude right:

“Put on some sexy underwear, maybe even a lace tank top poking out from underneath the shirt, sky high heels, and some sexy booty music that they play in the clubs. Dance around for a little bit, while applying false lashes. Big earrings never failed to make any girl look glamorous, and spray on some of your sultriest perfume. I personally am a fan of euphoria blossom or l’homme YSL (it’s musky with notes of freshness, it’s pretty sexually ambiguous, and smells like pure sex on a girl.) Keep that music playing in your head, strut outside and use your smile like a weapon.”

Thanks for all your comments, and don’t forget to enter this week’s contest, signed copies of Emily Giffin’s new book, Heart of the Matter! Keep reading »

How To Rock (Almost) Black Lipstick

Deep, dark lipstick is something very close to my cold, black heart. I was always drawn to the look of Bohemian Paris and 1920s flappers with their stunning wine-stained pouts, which eventually carried me into a goth phase that occurred sometime back in the early-to-mid nineties.

Back in those days, Revlon’s Blackberry was my drug of choice. I literally wore it every single angst-filled day. Sometime around college I chilled out and kind of stopped wearing makeup altogether, and over the years since I’ve dealt in strawberry reds and candy pinks when it comes to lip rouge, but eventually I always circle back to vampy almost-black. And what with licorice-looking lipstick being a huge beauty trend for fall (not to mention one of the trickiest–we’ll discuss), the time has come to revisit the look.

That said, didn’t I just mention something about tricky? Keep reading »

Estelle And Rachel Roy Team Up For Jewelry Line

Singer Estelle will collaborate on a jewelry line with fashion designer Rachel Roy, whose clothing is demure and beautiful yet also alluring. Roy announced the deal via Twitter saying, “I am excited to work with @EstelleDarlings on a jewelry collection, which will debut in Spring 2010.” No details are available yet because the collection is still in its early development stages, says Roy’s spokesperson. We’re curious how the duo will merge Estelle’s high-glam, in-your-face style with Roy’s mysterious and refined aesthetic. But if you can’t have fun with your jewelry and accessories, then what’s the point of getting dressed? Estelle will be on hand to host the launch party for Roy’s pop-up shop, which opens Sept. 10, during New York Fashion Week. (You may remember that Estelle has honed her design skills during her collaborations with shoe designer Jonathan Kelsey and H&M.) Although Roy’s marriage to Damon Dash has failed, this collabo and the launch of Rachel Rachel Roy at Macy’s in August are spelling success for her brand. [WWD via Sassy Bella] Keep reading »
