Dealbreaker: The Sexless Guy

iStockphoto

I’ve already told you why guys who don’t want head are a dealbreaker for me, but what about guys who just aren’t into sex? Yes, they exist. Anyone who tells you otherwise—that all men are 24/7 sex fiends—is either lying or has just been lucky enough not to meet the kind of guy I’m talking about: the sexless guy.

I’ve dated several guys who, from what I can tell, have a take it or leave it attitude toward sex, with an emphasis on leaving it. Why, you may ask, did I, someone who writes about sex almost every day, wind up with them? I don’t really know, but I did. And the worst part about it is not the physical withdrawal; I’m not the kind of girl who needs to do it every day (though that would be nice).

Dating Drama: The Ex-Boyfriend Blues

Single Life

Since my breakup, I’ve not only been navigating single life, but I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of relationship to have with my ex. Are we friends? Acquaintances? Simply exes? Potential friends with benefits? It’s hard to say, and I vacillate between these possibilities. I’m grateful that ours was a long distance relationship, so I don’t have to worry about running into him at a club or the grocery store. At the same time, I’ll be honest—I miss him. Our once-daily talks and emails have dwindled to once or twice a week ... but that doesn’t mean I don’t think of him more often than that.

Dating Drama: What’s The Best Time For Sexytime?

Sex Clock

Wake me up at the crack of dawn looking for sex, and I’m likely to ignore you, or yell at you—and not in a dominatrix type of way. To put it mildly, I’m not a morning person—or, rather, I’m up for “morning sex,” if 11:59 a.m. counts as “morning.” But others have different ideas on the matter, so I asked my friends what time of the day equals sexytime for them.

Dating Drama: To Movie Date Or Not To Movie Date?

Movie Date

“Dinner and a movie” may sound like the most boring, clichéd date ever, but I think movie dates are hot. When you go to the movies with someone, you learn a lot about them: what kinds of films they like, whether they pay for the tickets, how they behave in the theater. You may not be talking during the movie, but there’s a lot to be said for body language.

Dating Drama: Why I’m Happy To Be Single (For Now)

Girl Happy

Not long ago, I had a boyfriend. Now, I’m single. Again. I’d been feeling like my relationship wasn’t working for a while, but that hasn’t made the breakup any easier. I miss my ex, but even more, I miss the idea of us having a future together. At the same time, I’m getting into the idea of being single, and trying to embrace that rather than rushing to find someone to replace him. (There are few people I’ve had my eye on.) I’m reminded of “Single Girl” by Lush. It starts with “Single girl/who would want to be a single girl?” and ends with “I’m so happy I’m a single girl.” In the interest of focusing on the latter rather than the former, here are the top 10 reasons I’m happy to be single.

Dating Drama: For Some, Flirting Is A Sport

Flirting

My friend Gloria flirts with everyone—even her cat. Seriously. Almost every time I see her she’s cozying up to someone new, even though she isn’t a perpetual dater and doesn’t sleep around. At my birthday dinner a few weeks ago, she asked my friend Sira if he wanted to lick some buttercream frosting off her chest. He busted out his cell phone and said, “Have you seen my boyfriend?” But it didn’t matter to her that he’s gay; she was flirting for the sake of flirting.

Five Female Bloggers (Not Named Julia Allison) Who Should Be On The Cover Of A Magazine

Julia Allison/Wired Magazine

Hey, do you read Wired? I don’t (Catherine has a subscription), but I am taking notice of Wired now – the cover of their August issue is certainly a departure from covers’ past and I must admit I recognize the pretty face, though many of you may not. Under the headline “Internet Famous: Julia Allison and the Secrets of Self-Promotion”, the August cover features Julia Allison, an NYC-based blogger who, among other things, covers sex and relationships for Time Out New York. She was recently dubbed “the modern day Carrie Bradshaw” by The New York Times because she writes about her personal life on her blog. Allison just launched a new blog/web portal called NonSociety.com with her best friends Meghan Asha and Mary Rambin. Now it should go without saying that thanks to platforms like Word Press, Blogger, Tumblr, and Type Pad, everyone from your crazy next door neighbor to my Grandma can blog, but usually one doesn’t end up on the cover of a major magazine like Wired as a result. So what’s Allison doing there and why should you care?

To Cut Or Not To Cut? That Is The Question.

Sex writer Rachel Kramer Bussel is in a heated debate over at Jewcy about the subject of circumcised penises. She votes “nay” on foreskins, while writer Esther Goldberg likes her men au natural. Both have good points, but where do you stand? [Jewcy.com]
