Return To The ’50s With Janie Bryant’s “Mad Men” Style

While you wait for Don Draper’s cigarette-smoking, alcohol-swilling hotness to return, the costume designer for “Mad Men” devised a solution to cure your withdrawal. After dressing Joan, Betty, and the boys in vintage designs for the past few seasons, Janie Bryant decided to launch her very own collection for QVC, obviously inspired by her work on the show. Meet Mod by Janie Bryant, which will include outerwear, jackets, sweaters, bottoms, handbags, and costume jewelry, is set to launch on September 29. In case you can’t wait that long, don’t stress. To coincide with the “Mad Men” premiere at the end of July, select pieces from the clothing line are set to appear on the QVC website this August so you can get your ’50s look on. “‘Mad Men’ has had such an influence on fashion in that women are dressing up more, so these are statement pieces that can change your outfit in an instant,” she explained. Fans of the show and style will find this collection is all in the details: detachable fur collars, lace, bright colors and patterns along with items that bring to mind the style of the ’50s and ’60s. Given the price range — $26 to $138 — this is a great way to jump into the vintage trend if you’re too lazy to dig through the bins at Goodwill or too grossed out to wear someone else’s clothes. Ready To Take On The Grandma Chic Look?

Grandma chic is officially back on the style map, so it’s time to dig through grandma’s closet or head to your local thrift go-tos. But for those of us who have a phobia of vintage stores and pre-worn clothes, Liza Minnelli has the solution, with a fashion line for QVC! Her collection of clothing and jewelry, The Liza Collection, will consist of sparkly sweaters, sequins, and baubles inspired by her very own closet. “My life has provided me the ability to amass a wonderful wardrobe designed by fashion’s brightest stars. I am excited to work with HSN in launching The Liza Collection and to have the opportunity to share my favorite looks with millions of women who want to look fabulous and feel their very best,” she explained. Liza’s style may look ridiculous now, but we don’t think it’ll be long before style bloggers start showing off their best pouts in Liza-inspired get-ups. For sparkly sweaters galore, mark your calendar for June 30 at 10 p.m. ET, when her line launches on QVC. [QVC] Keep reading »

QVC Re-Sells Used Cosmetics?

Do you shop QVC for your cosmetics? If so, you might want to inspect your purchases carefully for signs of use. A thread posted a few days ago on QVC’s Beauty Banter forum debates this issue. The original commenter said she received a used Perricone kit, and a few others echoed similar stories: “I just had this happened to me. I posted a new thread regarding this. Mine was a LG blush I received that was not in the original packaging and upon checking the compact it looked as though someone had brushed across the top.” The community message board users appear to be fairly polarized on this claim, however. Several state that “there have been many, many reports of people receiving used items here on the boards for years so I definitely believe it.” On the other side are die-hard QVC fans who feel the company would never take the risk of re-selling used products, or if customers received something damaged, it was probably due to human error.
