Wasilla High School Bans Song By Gay Rock Legend

An Alaska high school choir was up in arms after the principal banned a song for graduation because it was written by a gay rocker. Wasilla principal Dwight Probasco banned the 1975 Queen hit “Bohemian Rhapsody” from a graduation ceremony after complaints from parents about the sexual orientation of songwriter and lead singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury. “The whole thing was just ridiculous,” said a senior from Sarah Palin’s hometown. “They’d played the song on the school intercom and we played it at prom. It’s a great song and the choir was really excited to be singing it. The senior class felt like it defined them.” Read more… Keep reading »

Couple Commemorates Wedding With “Don’t Stop Me Now” Lip Dub

My main reason for possibly wanting to get married someday — besides, you know, joining forces legally with my partner in life and love — is so I can involve Queen, the greatest band ever, somehow. This couple did it so well. [via Buzzfeed] Keep reading »

Old-School Wednesdays: Queen And David Bowie Are “Under Pressure”

We were reminded of Queen and David Bowie’s amazing rendition of “Under Pressure” earlier this week, and wanted to take another look at the video. This video reads like “the history of stress,” but wait! It redeems itself with sweetness and light at the end. Why don’t you give love one more chance, after all. [YouTube] Keep reading »

Homeless Man Channels His Struggle With Queen And Kermit

How is it that a homeless man with a Queen song and two Kermit puppets made me cry? Just watch the video and you’ll see. I feel like I understand the epic-ness of this guy’s struggle without him even saying a word … well, besides the sign that says he’s homeless with two kids. He uses the passion of Freddie Mercury and the pure spirit of Kermit the Frog to tell us his story. Heartbreaking and well worth a dollar. [The Daily What] Keep reading »

The Muppets Do Queen And It Is Beautiful

It’s a well-known fact that Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” is one of the the hardest songs to sing and until this very second, I didn’t think anyone but my beloved Freddie Mercury could pull it off. I don’t know whose brilliant idea it was to have The Muppets sing this classic rock song, but they should be given a prize or a medal or perhaps be knighted by the Queen. I particularly like Beaker’s contribution — mee-mee-mee-mee! [via Buzzfeed] Keep reading »

Should Adam Lambert Be Queen’s Next Frontman?

You know that Queen song where they chant “no time for losers” really obnoxiously for, like, five minutes? Well Entertainment Weekly is suggesting the band make time for “American Idol” loser runner-up Adam Lambert. Since Queen’s lead singer, Paul Rodgers, recently peaced out the band, they need a replacement ASAP. And on the last episode of “Idol,” Kris Allen did a duet of Queen’s “Champions” with Lambert, and his flamboyancy totally reminded us of late Queen singer Freddie Mercury. EW says Adam “has the musical chops and stage presence vital to preserving Queen’s signature sound.” So, should Adam pick up the phone and call Queen, stat? Or should he concentrate on churning out his own tunes? [EW] Keep reading »
