"Stop pollutin', fool, inspect your dome."

Guys, the ’90s! The best! Here’s a clip from a 1990 Earth Day special, featuring, oh, basically everyone who was famous in the ’90s. While the entire special is about an hour long and features everyone from Neil Patrick Harris (NPH 4 LYFE) to Danny Devito, the Cosbys and the stars of “Thirtysomething,” we thought this Earth Day rap section was tops. In it, future movie/TV stars like Will Smith, Ice-T and Queen Latifah offer up their best environmentally-friendly rhymes. Did you want to see Heavy D rap about dying fish? Will Smith postulate on paint? Kid ‘n’ Play speak out about war (and garbage)? Tone Loc talk about used batteries? Yes, this video is all that and more. [Mental Floss]

And oh yeah, for 10 things you can do for Earth Day check out this list!

The Trailer For The Black Reboot Of “Steel Magnolias” Has Arrived!

My Lifetime Movie
"My Life Is A Lifetime Movie" is going to be the best show ever. Read More »
Will It Do Justice To The Original?

Question: can Lifetime really call their remake — featuring an all black cast — of the ’80s classic “Steel Magnolias” an “original movie”? Because the story line and all the dialogue appears to be exactly the same. This time around, the movie stars Queen Latifah (M’Lynn), Alfre Woodard (Ouise, still in a bad mood for 40 years), Phylicia Rashad (Clairee), Jill Scott (Truvy), Adepero Odoye (Annelle), and Condola Rashad (Shelby, who still has diabetes). Unless Shelby remarkably lives at the end, I don’t think you can call this movie original or particularly necessary. Thankfully, I don’t need either to be inclined to watch! [Blackbook]

Queen Latifah & 10 Other Celebs Who Came Out And The World Replied, “No, Duh.”

Is Queen Latifah finally coming out of the closet? The longtime rumored lesbian — who has never publicly identified as gay or straight, but has been legally testy when it comes to the former — is set to headline Los Angeles’ Gay & Lesbian Pride Festival on May 19. The press release underscores Queen’s membership in the community. Via Vibe

From hip to R&B, pop to standards, Queen Latifah is the voice of our generation, and her concert here will be phenomenal, for her to make her worldwide Pride debut here in Long Beach is a tremendous testament to the popularity of our celebration and to the strength of our community.

It’s not quite an all-caps announcement on the cover of People, but maybe Latifah is saving that pronouncement for on stage. While I totally commend Latifah for her participation in the event and will be stoked if she officiallyofficially comes out as a proud gay woman, I suspect I’ll be one of many uttering a loud “duh.”

If this happens, Queen Latifah would join a long line of celebrities who came out of the closet to the shock of no one except maybe their most deeply in denial fans. Click through this slideshow of famous gays and lesbians whose coming out was met with a collective yawn.

Queen Latifah Releases A Just-Okay Lifestyle Brand With HSN

Queen Latifah has possessed a powerful image since the 1980s. Who can forget the impact of a female MC donning queen-like garb — leather Africa medallions, Nefertiti-esque hats, and other Afro-centric attire? But, still, we would never argue that she’s a fashion icon. So we’re kind of surprised she, too, has a lifestyle brand with HSN. Literally every celebrity has a fashion or lifestyle collection, causing our heads to spin around and question what it means to be an actual fashion designer. Keep reading »

Evening Quickies: Queen Latifah Joins “Dancing With The Stars”

  • Queen Latifah will join Rob Kardashian (!), Snooki (!!!) and Kristin Cavallari (roll eyes) for the next season of “Dancing With The Stars.” Even though I thought Queen Latifah was above “DWTS,” she’s going to dominate! [TMZ]
  • Grazia magazine confessed to Photoshopping Kate Middleton’s already twig-like torso for its special royal wedding issue in April. In the confusing statement, the magazine said, “[Grazia] would like to reassure all our readers that we did not purposely make any alternations to the Duchess of Cambridge’s image to make her appear slimmer, and we are sorry if this process gave that impression.” [Fashionista]
  • Speaking of Kate, her Hollywood doppleganger Anne Hathaway praised the princess for dressing “like a lady” and said she’s grateful to her for “making looking appropriate really fun again.” [Celebuzz]

Queen Latifah Finally Comes Out

“I just like ladies who have class. Period. And if it’s ‘T and A’ you’re sellin’, that’s fine, as long as that’s what you’re selling. But you don’t have to show everything, you know? You can hold some back and just be yourself and let your personality shine and let your individuality show. To me, that’s sexier. A confident woman is a sexy woman, in my opinion.”

Queen Latifah tells Sister 2 Sister magazine what kind of ladies she likes. This is significant because (A) Queen Latifah is amazing, and ladies should have some info on what reels her in and (B) because she’s never discussed her sexuality before. After years of dodging questions, especially since the speculation about the split between her and longtime girlfriend Jeanette Jenkins, props to Queen Latifah for opening up about her love for ladies. It’s not that I think a celebrities’ sexuality is any of our business. It’s just that the choice to be open about it — as a human being — is a powerful one. Queen Latifah is a role model for many women. I believe her decision to come out will only continue to inspire them. [Tabloid Prodigy] Keep reading »

Today’s Lady News: Queen Latifah Says Give Chris Brown “A Second Chance”

  • Queen Latifah has spoken up to say it’s time to stop punishing Chris Brown for his assault on Rihanna last year. “The guy is a young guy and he made a big mistake and he needs to bounce back from that,” she said. “And he needs an opportunity for a second chance … We can’t condemn that kid. He’s a kid and he needs to correct the mistake for the future, not live in the past. He needs to be forgiven. Enough already. We can’t keep beating him up.” What do y’all think? Police say alcohol may have been involved. [The Martha's Vineyard Times (ninth item)]

Did Queen Latifah Get Photoshopped Thinner In Her “Just Wright” Poster?

I was poking around on Apple’s iTunes Movie Trailers site this weekend, when I noticed the poster for Queen Latifah and Common‘s new movie, “Just Wright,” looked a little, well, just wrong. I know the Queen is a Jenny Craig spokeswoman and has lost some weight over the past couple of years, but this much? The angle is flattering, and it’s hard to tell with Common’s arms wrapped around her. Still, it looks to me like someone has gone in, thinned her up, and given her a boob-lift. Sure, this is the Hollywood way of doing things, but it feels lame, especially considering Queen Latifah seems like one of those people who would actually not really care about what anyone thought of her body but herself. Decide for yourself after the jump. Keep reading »
