A Queen Elizabeth Photobomb Makes This The Best Selfie Ever

Queen Elizabeth Selfie

Two Australian hockey players captured one of the better selfies in Instagram history when Queen Elizabeth peeked into the shot behind them. The queen paid a surprise visit to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland on Thursday to see a Wales-England hockey match. She arrived early, just as the Australian match was coming to an end, so she hung out and chatted with the Australian players. Players Jayde Taylor and Brooke Peris tried to time their selfie so that the camera would snap just as the queen was walking behind them. The ladies imply that the queen just happened to be smiling in their direction, but I think she was totally trying to get into that shot. Her green outfit even matches theirs! Queen Elizabeth

Finally a story to bring out the giddy nerd lurking inside all of us. Not only does it contain UFOs and British monarchy, but add in some Death Eater-like locutions and you’ve got yourself a teen-sci-fi-fantasy-novel in the works.

British National Archives released letters sent between 2007 and 2009 to members of British government, including the Queen, urging them to take action over “UFO security issues.”

But the awesomest part is the content of the letters. Here’s when the Harry Potter flashbacks kick in: Keep reading »

What To Know About The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

The Diamond Jubilee is another way to say 60 years since Queen Elizabeth II became queen. Technically, it kicked off on Feb. 6, 2012, 60 years since her father died in 1952 and she replaced him as monarch at the age of 25, but the main event starts Saturday. Queen Elizabeth II is only the second British monarch to reach 60 years on the thrown. Back in 1897, when Queen Victoria marked the same anniversary, she was much more feeble, having to celebrate the Jubilee service from her open carriage sitting outside of St. Paul’s Cathedral. If you know little about Queen Elizabeth, you’d likely recognize her in bright colored outfits and big hats still visiting gathered crowds at age 86. She’s not slowing down for the upcoming Central Weekend, which includes celebrations across the UK and Commonwealth for the queen’s 60-year rule, from Saturday, June 2 to Tuesday, June 5. If you want to follow along at home, here’s what you should know. You might even consider throwing a Diamond Jubilee party, complete with Corgis, favors, and tea. Read more …

I’ve never been jealous of a corgi before, but these little guys, decked out in special patriotic finery, might be the exception. You see, they met and even were pet by the black-gloved hand of Queen Elizabeth II, during her visit to Sherborne Abbey in the Southwest of England as a part of their Jubilee tour of the country. It’s a dog’s life.

Kate Middleton Forced To Get Pregnant As Adoption Won’t Work For The Queen

Kate Middleton must have her own children with Prince William before she will be allowed to adopt according to Queen Elizabeth II.  It has been said that Kate considers Angelina Jolie her role model, so it is not surprising that she is considering adoption.  Nevertheless, it is the royal couple’s duty to provide the monarchy with an heir or two before adoption can be seriously considered.

Royal watchers concerned with the monarchy have been impatient for the news that Duchess Kate is pregnant – since an adopted child would be ineligible to ascend to the throne.  William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth IIsays that while she would consider the idea of Kate adopting in the future, she first wants to see her produce a legitimate heir. I See London, I See France … And Queen Elizabeth’s Underpants

Why celebrities should never, ever accidentally leave belongings behind: they will surely end up on the internet or up for auction. That’s what’s going on with a pair of Queen Elizabeth‘s underpants—if you can even call them that—that she apparently left on a plane way back in 1968. For some 40 years, they had been in the possession of a Florida man, recently deceased. The old-fashioned panties will be up for auction at the man’s estate sale and are expected to go for as much as $9,000! This apparently happened to Queen Victoria’s underwear, which sold for the same price, reports TMZ.

OK: a) the royal family needs to stop leaving its underwear in easy-to-find places, and b) bloomers? We realize the pair is quite old, but even before the ’60s, people were wearing standard panties as we know them. [TMZ] Keep reading »

A Car Fit For A Queen Up For Grabs

A car built specifically for Queen Elizabeth II is up for sale. The like-new 2001 Jaguar Daimler Majestic V8 LWB has 14,000 miles on it — 12,000 of which were put on by the queen herself between 2001 and 2004. She used the luxury car to travel between Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, to visit friends, to go to church, and to get around the Royal Estate in Windsor. The Jag was modified to hold Her Majesty’s purse on a specially designed armrest and has a direct link radio to Home Office and Downing Street, which is the official residences of two of Britain’s most senior cabinet ministers. The radio, of course, is now non-functioning, but the fantasy of playing queen sounds fun anyway. Surprisingly, the original registration used by the queen, service book, spare keys are still in the car. Peter Ratcliffe, a memorabilia dealer with Legends in Time, bought the car and is now entertaining only serious inquiries. [Reuters, HMTheQueensDaimler.com] Keep reading »

The Lady Greets The Queen

The looks on the guys standing around Gaga and Queen Elizabeth are the best part of this photo. The one closest to Gaga seems to be thinking, “Damn, Queenie, I wouldn’t touch her if I was you. She might be contagious!” The guy on the end who looks like Ryan from “The Office” is thinking, “Can you believe Little Red Riding Hood had a baby with Batman’s Robin? I didn’t even know they knew each other.” The big question, of course, is: What do you think is going through the Queen’s mind? Keep reading »
