I See London, I See France … And Queen Elizabeth’s Underpants

Why celebrities should never, ever accidentally leave belongings behind: they will surely end up on the internet or up for auction. That’s what’s going on with a pair of Queen Elizabeth‘s underpants—if you can even call them that—that she apparently left on a plane way back in 1968. For some 40 years, they had been in the possession of a Florida man, recently deceased. The old-fashioned panties will be up for auction at the man’s estate sale and are expected to go for as much as $9,000! This apparently happened to Queen Victoria’s underwear, which sold for the same price, reports TMZ.

OK: a) the royal family needs to stop leaving its underwear in easy-to-find places, and b) bloomers? We realize the pair is quite old, but even before the ’60s, people were wearing standard panties as we know them. [TMZ] Keep reading »

A Car Fit For A Queen Up For Grabs

A car built specifically for Queen Elizabeth II is up for sale. The like-new 2001 Jaguar Daimler Majestic V8 LWB has 14,000 miles on it — 12,000 of which were put on by the queen herself between 2001 and 2004. She used the luxury car to travel between Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, to visit friends, to go to church, and to get around the Royal Estate in Windsor. The Jag was modified to hold Her Majesty’s purse on a specially designed armrest and has a direct link radio to Home Office and Downing Street, which is the official residences of two of Britain’s most senior cabinet ministers. The radio, of course, is now non-functioning, but the fantasy of playing queen sounds fun anyway. Surprisingly, the original registration used by the queen, service book, spare keys are still in the car. She might be contagious!” The guy on the end who looks like Ryan from “The Office” is thinking, “Can you believe Little Red Riding Hood had a baby with Batman’s Robin? I posed nude once. The photographer was a professional and a friend, and the scene was a sound stage. The photos were black and white, and you couldn’t really see anything, as I covered up my naughty bits. It was pretty fun actually, and kind of freeing. The Obamas are in Europe this week for the G-8 summit, and while in Italy, the president met Pope Benedict for the first time. As is custom for visiting world leaders, the Pope and the American prez exchanged presents.

This reminds us of the time that Obama brought presents when he and the First Lady met the Queen of England. That got us wondering: were the gifts Obama gave the head of the Catholic Church better than the gifts he gave the head of the British monarchy?

The Touch Felt ‘Round The World

Yesterday, at a reception at Buckingham Palace for the G20 summit, the Obamas met Queen Elizabeth, and Michelle did the unthinkable: She touched the Queen. This seems pretty innocuous, however, apparently it’s a big deal. Well, at least to some people.

When you meet royalty there is certain protocol that, while not set in stone, is nearly always followed. In the Time article “The Queen and Mrs. Obama: A Breach in Protocol,” Howard Chua-Eoan considers whether Obama was too friendly for British standards when she put her hand around the Queen’s back in a sort of half-hug. Chua-Eoan writes that one defense for Michelle’s behavior is that she isn’t a subject of the Queen, so she doesn’t have to curtsy before her.

Royal Mix-Up: Prince Charles Invites Dita Von Teese Over

Who can resist the charms of glamour queen Dita Von Teese? Not even stodgy Prince Charles, which is why he introduced himself to the attractive alabaster stranger at a Cartier event. When the Royal asked Ms. Dita what she did, she replied that she was a “dancer.” When Prince Charles unwittingly asked the dancer to do a number at Prince Harry’s upcoming birthday party in September, he had no idea he’d get more show than he bargained for. After the damage, er booking, was done, an aide informed the culturally clueless Prince Charles about Dita’s contributions to the art of striptease and he was mortified. After all, what would his mummy think?! We think under those suits and floral hats, there’s a side to the Queen that likes to get down — or at least appreciate a woman who can. But we’ll have to wait and see if the real tassel-twirling burlesque show will go on at Buckingham Palace. [Daily Star]
