Phillip and Sue Lauer have (at least) two big passions in life: their pugs Roxy, Blue and Bono, and the book/TV series “Game of Thrones.” Naturally, like any decent dog-obsessed nerds with a lot of time of their hands, they’ve meticulously recreated the HBO show with their pups playing the various characters, including Jon Snow, Joffrey Baratheon and Daenarys Targaryen. There’s even a puppy-sized Iron Throne that took two full days to make! Impressive. [Buzzfeed]
Today in “Things That Make You Go Awwwww“: the story of Xander, a little pug from Klamath Falls, Oregon, who lost his eyes in an accident at age 1. Xander was living at an animal shelter when he charmed his way into the hearts of two shelter volunteers, who couldn’t resist taking him home and making him part of their family. It wasn’t long before his new owners, Marcie and Rodney Beedy, realized their pet had a special gift for lifting people’s spirits wherever he went. They enrolled Xander in American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Program, and after three weeks of training, he became a certified therapy dog. Despite his lack of eyesight, Xander is thriving in his new role, always seeming to know exactly what kind of nurturing people need, whether he’s at a school, hospital, or nursing home. “A lot of times he’ll hear a child crying at an event and he’s bolted several times, at least 500 feet over to this child to comfort them,” says Marcie, who wears a bell around her leg to let Xander know she’s near. Check out a couple adorable pics of Xander in action after the jump, and follow his mission of love and comfort on Facebook! Keep reading »
Another day, another artist accusing larger corporations of stealing her work. Today it’s cartoonist and illustrator Gemma Correll, whose pug-heavy doodles you may recognize from her “Pugs Not Drugs” paraphernalia or books like A Pug’s Guide To Etiquette and A Pug’s Guide To Dating.
Gemma’s doodle of a cat and pug together sitting under mistletoe, with the cat saying “Don’t even think about it!”, has allegedly been stolen by not one but two retailers. Keep reading »
We’ve been kinda down on public marriage proposals recently, but turns out there is one major exception: when 16 pugs are involved. A London man wanted to propose to his girlfriend on a recent trip to New York City, but he didn’t want to go it alone, so he contacted the NYC Pug Meetup Group to ask for backup. The group responded with 16 pugs adorned with heart-shaped balloons, who happily pranced around the couple while he popped the question. Needless to say, she said “yes.” [People]
Since the world has reached a dangerous Miley Cyrus oversaturation point, we’ve vowed to limit our Miley coverage to stories involving strange, endearing Celine Dion quotes or cute animals reenacting her sexy music videos. With that in mind, here’s a pug dressed up as the wrecking ball from the “Wrecking Ball” video. Enjoy. [Neatorama]
Writer and cartoonist Gemma Correll penned a dating advice book that will actually be of some use to us. A Pug’s Guide to Dating, coming out early next month, follows young pugs in their quest for love and all the pitfalls they face. “Who knew that sniffing someone’s backside in a park could be so alluring? For every pug, the road to romance is filled with dramatic highs and crashing lows. For every successful lick there’s an aborted leg hump, for each whiff of a pretty posterior there is a howl lamenting unrequited adoration,” says the Amazon description. I can relate all too well. At some point, I think we’ve all been taken on a date to the place someone pees. [Laughing Squid]
