Granted, I can’t understand what Korean pop star Psy is singing about in his new song “Gentleman,” his follow up to “Gangnam Style.” But his behavior in this video is anything but gentlemanly: he rips off a woman’s bikini top, pulls a chair out from underneath another, and acts like a general asshole towards women until one shows him that she’s his equal, I suppose, by being a jerk right back. The premise of the video, as well as the dancing, is pretty ridiculous. But then again, I suppose ridiculousness is Psy’s thing? [YouTube]
Justin Bieber, Psy, Ed Sheeran and a Bieber lookalike by the name of Austin Mahone all attended the Hot 99.5 Jingle Ball in DC last night. And all were, predictably, dressed like total idiots. Although we give Bieber a few extra points for layering with a T-shirt adorned with cat faces, overall, we give the dude fashion for the night a resounding thumbs down. Maybe it’s because I’m 100 years old, but I don’t understand the Bieber tendency to dress as if you are actually 7-feet tall, in faux-distressed denim, kitted out with oversized hats and (pet peeve times a million) sunglasses indoors.

There’s no doubt Korean rapper PSY is beloved across America, but the “Gangnam Style” star doesn’t necessarily feel the same way about America—or at least, he didn’t a few years ago. During a 2002 concert protesting the presence of US troops in Korea, PSY smashed a toy “American tank” on the ground as the crowd cheered, Mediaite reports. Two years later, during protests against the US war in Iraq after it indirectly led to the beheading of a Korean missionary in that country, PSY performed part of a vitriolic anti-America song by a Korean rock band. Some of the “Dear American” lyrics he rapped:
- “Kill those fucking Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives / Kill those fucking Yankees who ordered them to torture / Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers / Kill them all slowly and painfully.” Read more…
In case you have been living under a rock, “Gangnam Style” is the most absurd dance craze since “The Macarena” and you should not attempt to do it unless a) you are willing to look like an idiot, or B) you have the physical dexterity of Britney Spears (and, apparently, Ellen DeGeneres). Ellen surprised Brit-Brit with a visit for Psy, the South Koren pop star/rapper to teach her his sick moves. Dress classy and dance cheesy, everyone! [Entertainment Weekly]
