Fashion loves anything that straddles the very fine line between what is provocative and what is tasteless, and of course that includes romanticizing the blackened underbelly of society. If you don’t believe me, please consider the “heroin chic” phenomenon of the mid-nineties. (Also, consider the unsettling existence of a wikiHow article called “How to be Heroin Chic.”) So I guess fashion was like, “What’s gritty and ‘underground’ that we can glamorize with models and fancy clothes?,” and then they decided that prostitution would be perfect. Louis Vuitton’s latest short film (in collaboration with Katie Grand of Love magazine) features top catwalkers Cara Delevingne, Edie Campbell, Saskia de Brauw, Isabeli Fontana, Lily McMenamy, Georgia Jagger, and Magdalena Frackowiak as Parisian reines de la nuit drifting about the city streets in the brand’s romantic, lingerie-inspired Fall ’13 collection. Their path eventually leads to the actual show, where they take to the runway in the same wares. I don’t know what they are trying to say with this vague storyline — clearly they are trying to say something — but the video is pretty, and the music is nice, and hey, prostitutes! It’s not too explicit, but there are a few boobs and butts, so be wary should you work at, like, a church or something. [The Gloss]
Charlie Sheen continues his “I’m Not Crazy Anymore, Really” Tour in Playboy, telling the magazine his weird behavior was caused by a “psychotic break” after years in the spotlight and many failed relationships. “I finally just said the things I had always been thinking.” But when he infamously said he was “winning,” the truth was far from it: “I was in total denial,” he says. “I felt I was winning by finally being able to speak my mind. I felt that was some sort of victory.” Read more…
Julia Stiles is back on the small screen, only instead of your TV screen, I’m talking about your computer — the actress is staring in a new show called “Blue” on the YouTube channel Wigs. Wigs has enlisted a bunch of fantastic actors to star in their series, which involve multiple mini-episodes that are all usually under 10 minutes. In “Blue,” Stiles plays a single mom who starts working nights as an escort in order to pay the bills, but is shocked to find out one of her first clients is a friend from childhood. Whoops! You can watch episodes 1-5now. [WIGS]
But before that, let’s look back on the other fabulously talented actresses who have played escorts or call girls — i.e. sex workers who play house calls — on film or TV.
There’s a country-wide strike going on in Spain right now, against the government’s austerity cuts. And one surprising group that’s participating: the country’s prostitutes, who say they won’t have sex with the country’s bankers until they “fulfill their responsibility to society” and begin offering better loans to struggling Spaniards.
The initiative was put into place by Madrid’s prostitute trade association, which claims, “We are the only ones with a real ability to pressure the sector.” The strike has been on for four days, and said one participating prostitute, “We don’t think they can withstand much more.” Keep reading »
Jason Biggs, we hardly knew ya. The “American Pie” actor (seriously, is he known for anything else?) is having his dirty laundry aired by none other than his own lovely wife, Jenny Mollen. Mollen wrote an essay for the Playboy owned website, The Smoking Jacket, revealing how she and Biggs hired a prostitute for his birthday.
So my husband and I got a whore. I’m hoping, unless you’re some sick depraved dissolute of a person, this isn’t the kind of thing you hear everyday. If it is, f**k you, I thought it was pretty gangster. So, ok, where do I begin? I wanted to do something special for his birthday, isn’t that how all these stories start?

Wow, the tale of Italian prime minster Silvio Berlusconi keeps getting more and more sordid. This week, Italian prosecutors have charged eight people with sending prostitutes to Berlusconi’s infamous Bunga Bunga parties. The leader of the prostitution ring is one Giampaolo Tarantini, who is also being investigated for blackmailing Berlusconi in exchange for keeping his mouth closed about what went down. Currently, investigators are pouring over transcripts of conversations captured via wiretap, and are finding all sorts of scandalous details. Like that a famous Italian actress was allegedly offered a high profile national television gig if she’d sleep with Berlusconi. And in another phone conversation, between Berlusconi and a newspaper editor, Berlusconi is rumored to say that German chancellor Angela Merkel is “an unf**kable fat a**.” Yes, really.
And therein lies a big problem.

Rich men get their ties from Brooks Brothers, their cars from Maybach, and, apparently, their $1,200-an-hour call girls from madam Kristin Davis. Like his predecessor in public shaming, Eliot Spitzer, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the head of the International Monetary Fund who resigned Wednesday night after he was accused of sexually assaulting a New York City hotel maid last weekend, allegedly hired prostitutes from Wicked Models to keep him warm at night. (Or, just for an hour.) Madam Kristin Davis said Strauss-Kahn used her services in January 2006, requesting an “all-American girl” and paying $2,400 for two hours of her time. “He paid in cash,” Davis told the Times of London. “The first girl I sent to him said he was aggressive and didn’t want to be back with him again.” Davis claims Strauss-Kahn also hired a Brazilian prostitute in September 2006 while in New York City for a conference with Bill Clinton.
