Tim Gunn Talks Smack About Gretchen Jones Winning “Project Runway”

“Why did the villain win? Why? I could not believe it. Gretchen’s talented, and she’s not a horrible person. But was she the winner of the season? I don’t think so. The ‘Project Runway’ designers are like my kids. I love them all. I will say I love some more than others. And there’s some I wish I’d left in a basket.”

— Tim Gunn is still blabbing that it was wack that backstabbing Gretchen Jones won over sweet little Mondo Guerra on the most recent season of “Project Runway.” I’m glad he agrees the uber-talented Mondo totally got the shaft.

After the jump, Tim talks some smack about Michael Kors, on whom he blames Gretchen’s puzzling win: Keep reading »

Heidi Klum Wears Mondo’s Polka-Dot Dress

Mondo Guerra’s polka-dot maxi dress was a source of contention between the “Project Runway” judges during the finale. Heidi Klum and Jessica Simpson loved it, though Michael Kors and Nina Garcia hated it. Michael even dared Heidi to wear the dress — and she has. Heidi showed up to the AFI Fest 2010 Closing Night Gala screening of “Black Swan” wearing a variation of Mondo’s dress–one without the three-quarter length sleeves and padded shoulders, though. I was a fan of Mondo’s original dress, and I feel like Heidi’s tweaked one is missing that whimsical, high-fashion flair. What do you think? [TooFab] Keep reading »

Tim Gunn Rooted For Mondo, But Is Cool With Gretchen Winning “Project Runway” Because She’s Poor

Well, this is interesting. In the video above, Tim Gunn is asked what he thought about the “Project Runway” finale, in which Gretchen was awarded the top prize. Tim explains that host Heidi Klum asked him who he thought should win and he agreed with her that Mondo was the best choice, but that Heidi couldn’t get Nina Garcia or Michael Kors to budge. In the end, Tim agreed with some random woman in a deli, who told him that Mondo would succeed no matter what, while Gretchen needed the money. And that, my friends, will go down as the real reason Gretchen, who everyone hated for her attitude and hippie dippie designs (except me), won “Project Runway.” Keep reading »

Were You Happy With The “Project Runway” Finale?

I don’t want to enrage anyone who hasn’t seen last night’s “Project Runway” finale, in which the winner was named, so click after the jump for MAJOR OMG SPOILERS. Keep reading »

“Project Runway”: It’s Better With Toddlers

The “Project Runway” crew is a lot less irascible when they’re two feet tall and pooping in their Pull-Ups. Every episode of “Project Runway” should be done with toddlers, damn it. But I have one problem: Where’s baby Nina Garcia?! Maybe she’s off making bitchy comments on the potty. [Babelgum] Keep reading »

Jessica Simpson To Judge The “Project Runway” Finale

Jessica Simpson is busy these days, and not just teaching Annika the joys of jeggings. Yesterday, Jessica sauntered into the Fashion Week tent where “Project Runway” was holding its fashion show. When she sat down in the front row with Nina Garcia, Michael Kors, and Heidi Klum it quickly became clear that she is this year’s finale guest judge, joining the ranks of Victoria Beckham, Natalie Portman, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Lindsay Lohan who have served as judges on the show before. We think Jessica is kind of the perfect pick to guest judge the finale. Keep reading »

Frisky Q&A: Tim Gunn On Evil Gretchen, Martha Stewart’s Rude Kid, And Kissing Michelle Obama

Tim Gunn photo

Tim Gunn has a giant pair of balls.

No, I am not intimately familiar with the contents of Tim’s nattily tailored suits. I have read the “Project Runway” mentor’s latest book, a half-memoir/half-etiquette guide called Gunn’s Golden Rules: Life’s Little Lessons For Making It Work, and let me tell you, this man has chutzpah. The rude and ridiculous behavior of celebs and mere mortals alike — including his own family — are picked apart in the book; Gunn has already attracted attention for his scandalous revelations, from seeing Anna Wintour being carried down a flight of stairs by her minions to Andre Leon Talley being hand-fed grapes. For instance, he describes filming a Macy’s commercial with Martha Stewart and her daughter, Alexis, who referred to her mother as a “goddamned bitch” and called the products she was hawking at Macy’s “crap.” (He also describes the Stewarts’ relationship as “there’s something ‘Grey Gardens’ about the two of them.” Ha!)

But the craziest revelation to me was not about celebs, per se. Gunn’s father worked as a ghostwriter for J. Edgar Hoover, the former director of the FBI who was allegedly a cross-dresser. Well, Gunn strongly suggests that when, as a child visiting his father’s office, he was introduced to the “I Love Lucy” star Vivian Vance it was actually Hoover in drag. “I’m not saying at the age of eight I definitely met J. Edgar Hoover at his office in the FBI wearing a dress and makeup, only that I strongly suspect it,” Gunn writes.

ZOMG is right. After the jump, read all about Tim Gunn’s lunch with Michelle Obama, Gretchen’s “psychosis” this season on “Project Runway,” and how he has hidden this book from his mother all summer: Keep reading »

Betsey Johnson Brings The Noise To “Project Runway”

Fans of the ’90s, tulle, and “Sassy” magazine, get ready! Ebullient designer Betsey Johnson will be the guest judge on tonight’s episode of “Project Runway.” Tonight, the designers will be asked to make wearable items out of party store supplies (crepe paper bolero, anyone?).

It’s a tough challenge — apparently one designer ends up in the hospital tonight — and we’re wondering how Betsey’s quirkiness will mix with Michael Kors’ wit and Nina Garcia’s steely reserve. Betsey’s crazy style would have probably been “auf-ed” by Heidi Klum and the rest of the P-Run gang, so we’re expecting sparks to fly at the judging table. Keep reading »

Tim Gunn’s Mutiny: Asks If “Project Runway” Judges Are Smoking Crack

Last night brought the season premiere of “Project Runway,” and I tried—really tried—to stay awake through all 90 minutes of it. But while this show once seemed so fresh and original, now that it’s in its 8th season, it’s just stale. So to add an extra 30 minutes to every episode? Egads. I found myself drifting off and contemplating such things as: what is Heidi Klum‘s tattoo on her right inner arm?

The one bit of good news about the show is that Tim Gunn‘s role has been slightly broadened. He now does confessional interviews that are interspersed throughout the episode. But he still isn’t a judge because, as he says, “I’m a believer in the separation of church and state.” And sadly, Tim feels that judges Heidi Klum, Michael Kors, and Nina Garcia made some bad decisions this season. In one episode, he intervened during a judging session because he felt they were about to send the wrong person home. “I’ve never witnessed a season where I felt so disabled by what the judges have decided,” he says. “There’s a reason I call them crack-smoking judges.” [NY Post] Keep reading »

Nina Garcia Scares The Crap Out Of All The New “Project Runway” Designers

It’s that time again! “Project Runway” season 8 debuts tonight and PopSugar has video-chatted with the new designers. It’s a short video, but there don’t seem to be any obvious annoying cast members. I like the chick who asks herself, “What would Elvis do? And would ZZ Top be proud?” They’re all terribly afraid of judge Nina Garcia, though. Hmm, why would that be? (Kidding.)
