I don’t know about you, but I feel like Halloween always leaves something to be desired. Every year, it’s preceded by the usual hype, promising a debaucherous night for all involved. But, um, I find that it’s never really that good. I’m always glad when Halloween is over, and it makes me especially happy that it is immediately followed by Dia de los Muertos. Even though I’m American with no Latin or Mexican blood to speak of, the ghoulish festivity of Day of the Dead, celebrated November 1st and 2nd, appeals to me far more than any old Halloween. Getting sexy doesn’t require your ensemble to be tight and revealing. Subtly will get you much farther in the long run. But don’t think your sexy look has to be (gasp!) boring. Everly’s Bedrock Dress is both visually interesting with its graphic print and sexy with a plunging V-back and exposed zipper. Yet it leaves much to the imagination. Everly is a favorite amongst celebrities, but get this — the Bedrock Dress retails for less than $50 — which leaves you room to splurge on a pair of complementary (and bitchin’) platform pumps!
Hello from Paris! I’m spending the next month traveling around Europe and this beautiful city was the first stop on my journey. I’ve never been here before and instantly fell in love with the beautiful architecture, friendly people, and endless croissant supply, but the best part? The fashion—oh, the fashion! Women here really do step up their style game, and it’s inspired me to update my wardrobe too. These are the key pieces I’ve seen strutting by me on the sidewalk these past few days. We couldn’t help but fall a little bit for Peter Som’s exuberant, larger-than-life flower prints in his Spring/Summer 2012 collection. But one thing we can’t abide — or afford — is Som’s exorbitant designer prices. So we’ve searched around and found 10 pieces that evoke the same sense of joy and happiness that Som’s flowers do, without the majorly bummer price tag. The key to wearing any of these floral items? Make sure to keep everything else very, very basic. Check out our picks!
The other day, I saw a great shirt with nautically-themed rope detail on it, and almost purchased it, but balked at the last minute. I’m kicking myself now, because the rope detailing gave the blouse an added kick that elevated it from typical to totally outstanding. To ensure that you and I don’t make that mistake again, I’ve sleuthed out 10 great shirts, dresses and accessories with cool rope detailing to give you a little added pull. Check ‘em out after the jump!
I’m always running somewhere after work — yoga, a writing group, dinner with friends — and I don’t have time to make the trek home. So I carry everything I could possibly ever need with me for the day in various totes and duffels. More often than not, I end up looking like a crazy bag lady. What I really need is a big bag that I’m not embarrassed to bring to fancy restaurants, that holds a book for the subway, a laptop, workout gear, and doubles as a purse. This GAP flat tote in beige seems to fit all of my requirements for price, cuteness, and functionality. No more being mistaken for a homeless woman.
Long necklaces are a magical part of the jewelry kingdom. They’re great for layering with other necklaces, look striking on their own, and — fun fact! — the long vertical line they create can actually have a slimming effect. Add one to a little black dress, for example, and oh man will you look like a tall drink of water. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorites that measure at least 24″ long and cost less than $50. Click through to check them out, and remember, contrary to what some stores would have you believe, a necklace is not a shirt.
It’s easy to get into an underwear rut, especially since cotton briefs are so comfortable. But every woman needs pretty lingerie in her life for the moments when she wants to feel special and throw practicality to the wind. Here’s the lingerie we’d like to wear around the boudoir.
