Morning Quickies: Sarah Palin’s Daughter-In-Law Britta Hanson Is Pregnant

  • Track Palin’s new wife Britta Hanson is pregnant and posing in pics on Facebook with her baby shower loot. The Frisky totally suspected this! Track and Britta got married two months ago with a small ceremony in Alaska and said they’d celebrate with a bigger ceremony later in the year. “Hmm,” we thought. “Why the hurry?” Turns out those Palins are just as fertile as they’ve always been. Mazel tov, Sarah Palin! You’re going to be a grandma again! [Celebitchy via Gawker]

  • An old friend of Chelsea Handler is blabbing to gossip mags about how they used to do lots of ecstasy and cocaine together. She’s worried the talk show host is still doing drugs and drinking heavily. Chelsea Handler drinking heavily? Sorry, Morgain McGovern, but that’s not news. Girlfriend has a friggin’ book called Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea. Also, she talks fairly regularly on her show about all the drugs she used to do, so I fail to see why this is a bombshell. [RadarOnline]

Carla Bruni Pregnant With Twins, Magazine Claims

Carla Bruni is pregnant with twins, according to French magazine Voici. The 43-year-old singer/actress/model/French First Lady already has a nine-year-old son, Aurelian, from another relationship. Carla is allegedly due to have her first child/children by French President Nicolas Sarkozy in October. But Carla is being mum about any potential pregnancy. When asked in an interview on Monday if she is pregnant, the Telegraph claims Carla said:

“If you’ll allow me, I’d rather not answer these questions about my family. I’d love to talk to you woman to woman about my family life, my personal dreams – and I’m really a very chatty person. But on this subject, I’m going to keep quiet. Not through arrogance or because I like keeping secrets. I am remaining tight-lipped about that to protect something. I would really like to to talk about it, but then it would take over everything else. And besides, it also involves people, so I’m not answering.”

Sounds like a non-confirmation confirmation to me! Another magazine, VSD, claims a senior aide to President Sarkozy also confirmed her pregnancy in off-the-record remarks. Sarkozy’s communications officer refused to comment, saying “That is a subject that is none of my business.” I guess we’ll have to wait un petit peu longer for an official confirmation about a trés trés chic bébé.

Tina Fey Is Pregnant!

Tina Fey is pregnant! Yesterday, while promoting her new memoir Bossypants on “Oprah,” Tina Fey announced she is five months pregnant. The 40-year-old and her husband, Jeff Richmond, a composer for “30 Rock,” already have a five-year-old daughter, Alice. Damn, I am so irrationally excited about this and I’m not a woman who usually cares about what’s going on in a celeb’s uterus. Who else is psyched for the growing army of mini-Tina Feys that she is producing? BWAHAHAHA! I can’t wait to see how her pregnancy gets incorporated into a Liz Lemon storyline on “30 Rock.” Mazel tov, Tina! [People] Keep reading »

Naked Mariah Carey Poses Pregnant For Life & Style

Will someone explain to me the impulse of pregnant celebs to pose naked? Mariah Carey posed nude for the cover of Life & Style, flaunting her pregnant belly carrying the twins — a boy and a girl — she’s expecting with hubby Nick Cannon. “I was feeling very vulnerable about taking pictures at all right now, but then I didn’t want to miss this opportunity to document this once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Mimi told Life & Style. “My ultimate goal was to share this incredibly personal moment with my true fans.” I’d love to be there, 1,000 years from now, when archeologists unearth these mags and wonder why, at one point in time, our society photographed our richest pregnant women naked. Should be fascinating. [Huffington Post] Keep reading »

Georgia Police Officer Claims She Was Fired For Being Pregnant

Something is rotten in the state of Georgia: narcotics K-9 officer Ruth Hernandez was fired by the city of Thomsen, Georgia after getting pregnant.

According to WAGT-TV, Ruth Hernandez became pregnant with her second child and told her superiors that she couldn’t perform her duties until November 11 (eight months from now). Obviously if she is pregnant, it is ill-advised for her be in dangerous positions that cops can find themselves in. Fortunately, by federal law, if an employee cannot perform a duty because of a disability — which is how pregnancy is viewed by the law — the employer is supposed to try to find a similar job that he or she can do. For instance, Thomson, Georgia, was hiring for a secretary, which is a desk position, in its fire department. However, Ruth Hernandez says she was never offered the secretarial position. Nor did the city of Thomson offer her a leave. Instead, she was fired by Thomson PD, which said in a statement to WAGT, it was “unable to hold her position vacant for the length of time requested.” Her police car and her K-9 dog have been given to another officer and Ruth is now unemployed.

Pregnant Commuter Kept Track Of How Much You Suck At Giving Up Your Seat

Most of us would like to think that if we saw a pregnant, elderly or handicapped person on the train or subway, we would offer up our seat in a jiffy. But a nifty social experiment done on the New York City subway by Elizabeth Carey Smith of Brooklyn, New York, during her recent pregnancy found that while she was offered a seat the majority of the time, good manners were not guaranteed. “Baby-Breeding” Ring Busted In Asia

Anywhere you can find women, you can find people trying to control women’s reproductive capabilities. I write a lot on The Frisky about attempts to deter women from having abortions. But in parts of Asia, there’s a problem that’s quite different: fertile women acting as surrogates who are kept in farm-like conditions for “baby breeding.” Recently, 14 Vietnamese women, including seven who were pregnant, were rescued from an “illegal and inhuman” baby breeding facility in Thailand. Mom Wants Mentally Challenged Daughter Sterilized

Here’s a sticky wicket for you: the mother of a 21-year-old mentally challenged woman in Britain is asking a court for permission to sterilize her daughter so she will not continue getting pregnant. The daughter, who is referred to in court as P to protect her anonymity, already has two young children who are being raised by P’s mother, Mrs. P, who lives with them. However, Mrs. P said she cannot financially support a larger family and that when she took her daughter to a family planning clinic, she refused to get a contraceptive injection (Depo Provera). As Mrs. P described it, if P were to become pregnant again, Mrs. P would put the baby up for adoption. The nature of P’s mental difficulties are not explained by the Guardian, but Mrs. P told the court that P does not seem to understand the gravity of the situation. “I tried to explain that any future babies will go to a new mum and dad,” Mrs. P said. “She doesn’t understand that she won’t ever see them again. She says, ‘I’m the mummy’. She doesn’t understand they will get a new mum.”

Mrs. P continued, “I want the best for my daughter. We are supporting and helping her, bringing up her children and keeping them together as family unit. Obviously we can’t carry on supporting more and more children. She doesn’t see anything wrong in her behavior.” The judge handling the case, however, said that expert evidence was not available to make a judgment and he declined to rule on an “extremely serious and important” issue without it. Having A Baby — Not Having An Abortion — Increases Your Risk For Mental Health Problems

Having an abortion does not trigger mental health problems, according to a Danish study of 365,550 teen girls and women who had an abortion or a baby between 1995 and 2007. In fact, what makes a woman most at risk for mental health problems is having a baby, the study published in The New England Journal of Medicine found. None of the women studied had a prior history of psychiatric hospitalization.

Sorry to burst your bubble, anti-abortion extremists. Keep reading »

Should Pregnant Ladies Get Special Parking Privileges?

A New York City councilman will introduce a law next week that would grant pregnant women special parking privileges. Women who are having difficult pregnancies that create mobility problems could get a doctor’s note entitling them to park in no-parking or no-standing zones, without fear of getting a ticket, up to 30 days after their due date. Councilman David Greenfield of Brooklyn said the pregnancy perk idea came after seeing his wife struggle while pregnant. “If I’m on a train and a pregnant woman walks in, I stand up and offer her my seat,” Greenfield told The New York Daily News. “I consider this legislation to be the same thing — standing up on the City Council for women who have difficult pregnancies.” Aww, that’s kinda sweet.
