There’s Apparently A Shortage On Shower Rods Thanks To “Love And Hip Hop” Star’s Sex Tape

There's Apparently A Shortage On Shower Rods Thanks To "Love And Hip Hop" Star's Sex Tape

According to TMZ, employees at various home retailers are reporting that shower rod sales have shot up ever since “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta” star Mimi Faust’s Vivid sex tape trailer was released online — and supplies are close to selling out. In the trailer for “Mimi & Nikko: Scandal in Atlanta” (which is after the jump and NSFW), Mimi and boyfriend Nikko Smith (who placed ninth on the fourth season of “American Idol” and is the son of legendary baseball player Ozzie Smith) are seen having, amongst other activities, rather aerobic shower sex, using the curtain rod for support.

I’m not sure what’s so special about “Mimi’s shower rod,” if anything, but the tape has apparently sent hordes of people flocking to Home Depot and Lowe’s to purchase their own. While I’m not sure I buy this whole shower rod shortage crisis (!!!), a cursory Twitter search for “Mimi shower rod” turns up enough results that I can’t write off completely. Hell, if “Mimi & Nikko” inspires people to get a little creative and adventurous in their next sex romp, it will have done more for society than Vivid’s last reality TV star sex tape. Sorry, Farrah. The Soapbox: The ’80s Called And They Want Their Sex Wars Back

The Soapbox: The '80s Called And They Want Their Sex Wars Back

I’m writing this on an airplane from Toronto, Ontario, to San Francisco, California. I’ve just spent six days among other women, other queers, other porn performers, and other feminists at the Feminist Porn Awards and the Feminist Porn Conference. In that time, I have witnessed moments that made my heart soar, my eyes tear up with love and the fiercest of joys, pride in the people I hold close to me. I have experienced moments that hurt my heart, that disappointed me, moments that underlined how privilege can alienate and divide us. I spoke to academics, I spoke to sex workers, I spoke to sex workers who were academics. It was a weekend of realizations, inspiration, determination … and I came away from it all feeling exhilarated and ready to change the world.

I also realized that the sex wars are still very much A Thing. There are still Good Feminists and Bad Feminists, though the definition of which is which varies depending on who you ask. It’s saddening to see us fighting each other, women who have been called prudes for asserting their sexual choices attacking women who have been called whores for asserting their sexual choices … and vice versa. This is, of course, exactly what the patriarchy wants. While we bicker about whether or not porn is empowering, we are being systematically marginalized, turned away from jobs, thrown out of school, our kids and our workspaces and our money and our privacy taken away from us. The act of having sex on film or any other sex work may empower some and humiliate others, or we might start feeling one way and eventually feel another. (The same holds true for food service workers, though we ask that question far less often). In our current culture we are all experiencing and navigating the effects of capitalist patriarchy. The Inevitable Miley Cyrus Porn Parody, “Wrecking Ballz,” Is Here

The Inevitable Miley Cyrus Porn Parody, "Wrecking Ballz," Is Here

If you had plans for tonight, I’m pretty sure you’re gonna wanna cancel them. Because the Miley Cyrus porn parody is out today! “Wrecking Ballz,” according to synopsis, “follows the adventures of America’s pill-popping princess Molly, as she sucks and fucks her way to stardom with Hollywood’s hottest celebs. With pseudo appearances by Beyonce, Liam Hemsworth, Robin Thicke, and Justin Beiber look-alikes, this A-list fuck fest is sure to make headlines and turn heads.” I just watched the extremely NSFW trailer and SPOILER ALERT, Miley, I mean Molly totally goes down on Fakeyonce. Scandalous! Don’t worry, I have no intention of taking this one out for a test rub — I only masturbate to D-list celeb porn, not porn parodies. (I have standards.) Anyway, given that Miley has been fairly open about her sexuality, I’m genuinely curious what she thinks about being the subject of a porn parody. Do tell, Smilerz. [Vice]

What Art Can Learn From Porn

porn-and-art

A few months ago, I caught wind of a bit of media flak surrounding the 2013 film Blue is the Warmest Color, a lesbian love story based on the novel by Julie Maroh. While most critics agreed the movie was exceptional (it won the Cannes Film Festival’s top prize, the Palme d’Or), the controversy stemmed from director Abdellatif Kechiche’s decision to include a love scene so sexually explicit that Maroh herself had publicly denounced it as porn. This set off a tumid media debate as to whether the scene had a legitimate place in the film or was simply “jerk-off material” in disguise.

As a director of lesbian porn, I was intrigued — and curious. Read more on Huffington Post…

The Soapbox: How PayPal & WePay Discriminate Against The Adult Industry

pay pal sex work

I was packing my bags, looking forward to a week trip to the Feminist Porn Awards and the Feminist Porn Conference, having finally earned enough through my Patreon patron-funded writing to travel and have a bit of a cushion when I got back. Payments would be processed at the beginning of the month, and I welcomed the assurance of my first paycheck that would pay my rent. I was finding it refreshing to be making a living (albeit barely) through getting paid to write on my experiences in the sex industry, giving me some hope that I could transition out and still survive financially. Finally I was getting paid for my writing… not in “exposure,” but in rent money!

That’s when I got an email from Patreon, saying that the payment processor PayPal had threatened to shut down all integration with their site because it contained “adult content.” The email stated:

“[A]s you can imagine, this would be detrimental to creators — hundreds of thousands of dollars were to be ‘frozen’ unless we flagged all adult content pages, made them private, and removed Paypal functionality from their individual pages… I’m so sorry that we had to do this without warning you first, but it was SUCH an emergency! We simply had to take action to avoid a situation where creators would lose hundreds of thousands of dollars of legitimate pledges.”

Patreon emailed all of our patrons to warn them and suggested we also email them to ensure payments went through as usual at the beginning of April. While Patreon was open to artists creating work that was adult in nature, their hands were tied. And not in a kinky way. Keep reading »

The Best Porn For Women On The Web

The-Most-Mesmerizing-Porno-GIF-You'll-Ever-See-(NSFW)

By now it’s no secret that women watch porn. Research has indicated one in three visitors to porn sites are women, and half of college-age women say that porn is an acceptable way to express sexuality. A British sex toy and lingerie retailer reports that 85% of female survey respondents admit that they watch porn as a “fantasy escape.” An additional 23 percent of women surveyed say they watch porn to relax. If so many women are watching porn, why is the overwhelming majority of porn made for men, by men? Read more on Your Tango…
