HIV+ Porn Star Speaks Out

The L.A. Times has an interview with Derrick Burts, the 24-year-old male porn star who contracted HIV recently. Burts, who has worked in gay and straight porn, as Derek Chambers and Cameron Reid respectively, discovered in early October through the adult industry’s AIM Healthcare Foundation that he had contracted the virus. Burts believes that he was infected by a fellow performer on the Florida set of a gay porn movie while AIM has previously stated that Burts was believed to have been infected through personal sexual contact and not while working in the porn industry. Whatever the case, Burts is speaking out now in an attempt to bring attention to the fact that most porn sets do not require condom use during sex scenes. “It’s very dangerous,” he stated of working in porn. “It should be required that you wear a condom on the set.” [L.A. HBO Creating A Series About The Porn Industry

Being the n’er-do-well pervert that I am, I love a good show about sex. And while Showtime seemed to beat other networks to the punch with my no-babysitter favorite “Red Shoe Diaries” and then “Secret Diary of a Call Girl,” HBO has recently brought out the big guns with “Hung.” Now they’re working on a show about the porn industry! Apparently, the executive producers of “Entourage” and “Boardwalk Empire,” Mark Wahlberg and Steve Levinson, are working on the one-hour drama with controversial writer James Frey. The show will follow a Midwestern girl who’s moved to Los Angeles after her boyfriend convinces her to become a star and hooks up with a video company which is under siege from its internet competitors. The cast will consist of both actors and porn stars. Frey says, “We’re going to make a sprawling epic about the porn business in LA. We’re going to tell the type of stories no one else has told before, and go places no one has gone before.” Well, it wouldn’t take much to do that, but we’re more concerned about whether or not it will suck. 8 Things You Didn't Know About What Happens Behind The Scenes On Porn Movie Sets
As a wise porn star once said, “Porn is all smoke and mirrors.” Same as Hollywood, the adult movie industry in the San Fernando Valley is in the business of figuring out what Americans’ dreams are and delivering their fantasies back to them in cinematic form. It will come as no surprise to most to hear that not everything you see in an adult movie is as it seems. But what really happens behind the scenes on the set of a porn movie? Find out.

What’s So Wrong With Sasha Grey Liking A Good Gang Bang?

Those of you who’ve seen Steven Soderbergh’s “The Girlfriend Experience” will know a little bit about Sasha Grey, who plays the main character. Those of you who are porn enthusiasts will know a hell of a lot more, seeing as Grey has been in more than 160 porn flicks over the past three years. From “Teenage Whores 3″ to “Anal Cavity Search 6,” Sasha’s done it all. (Or at least most of it.)

But while Grey’s been a porn world bad ass for a while, starring in a Soderbergh film has, uh, exposed her to a more mainstream and art house audience. It’s also opened her up to a s**t storm of criticism for participating in what many consider to be an exploitative industry. Keep reading »

Sex Sells, Just Not As Much As It Used To

We all enjoy indulging in a guilty pleasure. It might be a drink after work, hitting the slot machines, or perhaps, if you feel Frisky-ish, renting a porn. But in tough economic times, the industries considered to be recession proof, like sex, gambling and alcohol, are feeling the pinch just like everyone else. People are cutting back on extravagant pleasures in life, like their porn habits, lap dances, and shots of tequila. Even Playboy has been hit hard by the recession — their stock is down by 80% in the past year, they’ve cut jobs, closed their New York office, and canceled their Super Bowl party. Private Media Group, a porn company based in Barcelona, Spain, saw revenue drop in the third quarter. Rick’s Cabaret International, a chain of high-end strip clubs, also saw a decrease in earnings. No wonder Hustler magazine publisher, Larry Flynt, asked the government for a $5 million bailout for the porn industry. Other “vice” industries are taking a hit as well. Gambling in Las Vegas was down more than 6% from last year. Alcohol consumption is still going strong, but people are switching to cheap brands of liquor as opposed to premium brands. I guess we have to find other cheap ways to entertain ourselves now. This video is a start! [MSN: Money Central] Keep reading »
