Male Pole Dancer Wows On “America’s Got Talent”

I have a new favorite contestant on “America’s Got Talent,” one who I think rivals Prince Poppycock in grandeur. His name is Steve Retchless and he is a “pole-fessional.” In other words, he’s a pole dancer. “You don’t usually think of males in pole dancing,” said Howie Mandel after his intro. Steven’s response? “That’s why I’m here.” And yes, he was pretty freaking awesome dancing to Katy Perry’s “E.T.” I even like the way this dude fell. While one judge x-ed him quickly when he dared do a split, I’m so glad Sharon Osbourne and Nick Cannon stood up for him. “Talent is talent. It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing high heels,” said Nick. Critics Of Toddlers Pole Dancing Are Such A Buzzkill

A pole dancing class for toddlers offered at a dance studio in England is being attacked by critics who say it’s “promoting sexually precocious behavior” in young kids. But I don’t get what everyone is so worked up about. Isn’t climbing up and down and around a stripper pole just another form of exercise? And aren’t we being told every day to make sure our kids exercise so they can be healthy?

It sounds to me like maybe these whiny, fun-hating complainers need to get their head out of the gutter. Read more… Keep reading »

Danielle Staub Signs A Contract With Scores

There was a moment on “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” last year where Danielle Staub takes a few friends to a pole dancing class. The auspice of this activity was that she felt so violated about the release of her sex tape that she needed to do something to feel good again. She played shy at first, but as the scene progressed it became increasingly clear that Danielle was not at all feeling self-conscious or out-of-control of her sexuality. In fact, she took the opportunity to show of some of her former professional moves, including going spread eagle while staring down the male friends she brought to watch. “Always engage,” she said, taking over for the teacher, “And then suggest.” Shy? Please.

Well, apparently Danielle’s pole confidence has led to a new career. Danielle has now signed a three-year contract with Scores Gentleman’s Club in New York. Keep reading »

Pole Dancing For Jesus Is The New Christian Workout

If you thought pole-dancing died when Miley Cyrus got on the pole, you were wrong. The true death knell is Pole Fitness For Jesus, a pole-dancing class for good Christian ladies in the sleepy town of Old Spring Town, Texas. The women in the Pole Fitness For Jesus class strut in high heels and body roll to uplifting Christian music — not because they’re trying to be sexy, mind you, but because they are honoring their body as a temple. “God gives us these bodies and they are suppose to be our temples and we are suppose to take care of them and that’s what we are doing,” explained Crystal Dean, a pole-dancing instructor, who rightfully points out that judging others for pole dancing is not very Christian. In fact, the few students in the free classes, which meets two Sundays a month, attest they feel a “spiritual connection” on the pole. Hey, whatever makes you feel closer to God — as long as you’re not hurting anybody — is fine with this Christian. Just ask yourself: what would Mary Magdalene do? [KTRK] Keep reading »

How Pole Dancing Changed My Life

I sat on a purple mat wearing black yoga pants and a long-sleeved shirt across from 10 other women whose faces I couldn’t quite make out. The studio was dark, except for a few fake flickering candles lining the walls and two red-lit lamps. I looked around and counted four armchairs and fives poles. What had I gotten myself into? As a “liberated” 21st century professional woman, what was I doing in a room filled with a bunch of lap dance chairs and stripper poles? I reminded myself that I was there to help my friend Jennifer win a pole, but I was starting to reconsider. I could just leave, duck out quietly. Then I heard the teacher say, “Let’s start on our backs, and feel your breath.” There was no way out now. Keep reading »

Pole Dancing School Begins Offering Classes For Elementary School Kids

And now from the “Things Which Sound Like Something On ’30 Rock’ But Are Actually Real” files: The Up Yer Pole pole dancing school in Scotland has begun offering classes for elementary schoolers ages six to 12. Up Yer Pole calls the lessons “pole fit” classes, alleging they are gymnastics classes with no sexual dancing and are open to both girls and boys.

Be that as it may (and I won’t deny a workout on the pole is athletically rigorous), who do these Up Yer Pole people think they’re fooling? Keep reading »

Hungarian Pole Dancer Sets World Record To Promote Gender Equality

I think this is real? And not a joke, like the Hungarian version of The Onion or something? According to a Hungarian website, a porn star-turned-exotic dancer named Alma Pirner (aka Ginger Jones) got together with a bunch of other strippers and set a world record for pole dancing by working the brass pole for eight hours straight. Now that’s some inner-thigh strength! Pirner told reporters she was trying to prove a point about workplace equality, not just show off her pole riding skills: “When asked why this did this, Pirner said that it was to prove that women are just as physically and mentally capable as men, and deserve to be treated equally in the workplace.” I am not sure how that works in the real world, but I will respect the words of anyone who can hang on to a pole by their ankles for that long. Who Knew You Could Pole Dance To Mazzy Star?

Back when I had a boyfriend, sometimes I would get wild and give him lap dances. Usually, the required playlist was filled with poppy tunes like Britney Spears‘ “Slave 4 U” or some raunchy old-school Madonna song. Mazzy Star was typically not on that list, though I did enjoy the occasional sweet roll in the hay to Hope Sandoval’s sexy crooning. The extremely talented woman in this video, however, has managed to turn Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You” into the most magnetic strip show routine ever. Jessica, where did you take your pole dancing class again and can I come next time? Keep reading »
