Cate Blanchett, Sans Photoshopping

Photoshopped Dudes
Women aren't the only ones who've suffered from Photoshop. Read More »

Shocker! Cate Blanchett has fine lines. She even has slight bags under her eyes. Big, huge gasp!

Blanchett bravely posed for the March/April cover of Intelligent Life magazine without the assistance of makeup, retouching, or a wardrobe stylist. The magazine’s editor-in-chief says that they wanted to capture  Blanchett in her natural habitat, as “a woman of 42, spending her days in an office, her evenings on stage and the rest of her time looking after three young children.”  Keep reading »

Cate Blanchett, Kate Walsh & Kate Winslet Form The Anti-Plastic Surgery League

Cate Blanchett has revealed in a new interview that she is against two things when it comes to beauty—using one’s own urine as a cleanser and getting Botox or plastic surgery.

“There’s been a decade or so of people doing intervention with their face and their body. Now that we’re emerging from that people are seeing that long term it’s not so great,” Blanchett tells Fashionista.com. “I’m not sitting on a soapbox telling women what they should and shouldn’t do, but I know what works for me. I’d just be too frightened about what it means long term. If you have all that stuff done, in the end … you just see the work. It doesn’t fill me with admiration, it fills me with pity.”

Interestingly, she is far from the only Kate to declare themselves against cosmetic procedures recently. Keep reading »

Today’s Lady News: British Plastic Surgeons Say Advertising Their Procedures Should Be Banned

  • The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, a society of plastic surgeons, says what they perform are medical procedures and the procedures should not be advertised the same way clothing or cosmetics are. BAAPS also asked that annual checks be carried out on surgeons. The group said it is concerned by the increasing attitude that just anyone can perform plastic surgery, even people without a license, and believe that advertising and makeover TV shows are only furthering that reputation. Interesting. [BBC

It’s fun to talk about women who get plastic surgery. They’re kind of sad. A little desperate. They’re trying too hard. They’re spending too much money on what God should have given them. Everyone is keeping track of which movie star recently got her lips puffed up or her boobs plumped or her nose whittled down to practically nothing. I flick through a slideshow of before/after shots of famous women, shaking my head. I think, But she looked fine before!

Sometimes, when my friends make comments about someone who “obviously got some work done,” I nod along automatically.

I often forget that I am one of them. I am one of those women who was insecure enough to let someone cut them open for the sake of beauty. Keep reading »

Oneal Ron Morris

Behold, more fine work from fake doctor Oneal Ron Morris who gave a woman a butt implant made out of cement and superglue. Transsexual woman, Rajee Narinesingh of Miami, has come forward as another one of Morris’ victims. Narinesingh turned to Morris because she could not afford the surgery she needed to help her become a woman. As you can see, Fix-a-Flat is not a suitable material for cheek or chin implants. And this is what Narinesingh looks like after several corrective surgeries by a kind (real) doctor who is trying to help her fix her face. Ack. So awful. [Buzzfeed]

Ladies, if you insist on getting plastic surgery, please make sure that your doctor is properly licensed and legit. Because unfortunately, there are predatory fake doctors out there, and they will put some crazy things up your butt if you let them. Like transgendered woman Oneal Ron Morris (pictured), who for the low, low, low price of $700 offered one woman a butt implant. Sure, said the as-yet-unidentified victim, who probably looked at Morris’ own very large derriere and liked the results. Keep reading »

Nicolette Taylor nosejob photo

Think about the nightly showdown you had with yourself and the mirror as a teen. I’m sure there were at least 10 things you spent hours berating.  If mom and dad came in with a credit card and offered a permanent solution, would you take it? Be it a boob job, ear tuck, lipo, lip injections and hell, while we’re at it, a cortisone shot for that zit that won’t go away. Most teens would jump for the chance, and the case was no different with Nicolette Taylor. The 13-year-old from Long Island was featured on ABC News after her parents paid for her rhinoplasty.

The reason for getting plastic surgery at 13? Bullying.

This is Katie Halchishick, one of the founders of the blog Healthy Is The New Skinny. She was photographed for the November issue of O magazine covered in the dotted lines that would be made by a plastic surgeon prior to cosmetic surgery. She’s clutching a Barbie doll and the lines on her nude flesh — the first time O has featured a nude model — indicate what she would have to have cut away in order to have Barbie’s figure. Shot by famed photographer Matthew Rolston, the concept — that Barbie’s body does not at all reflect the measurements of real women —  may not be especially “new,” but it’s certainly the most striking depiction that I’ve ever seen. The image is accompanied by a letter to “Every Woman” from novelist Amy Bloom, in which she writes, “You are imperfect, permanently and inevitably flawed.  And you are beautiful.” [Healthy Is The New Skinny]
