Welp, now I’ve heard everything. A few conspiracy theorists have decided that the rapper Pitbull predicted the Malaysian Airlines plane crash/disappearance two years ago in his song “Get It Started” (above). These folks with too much time on their hands — i.e. YouTube commenters — say the lyrics to the song makes references to certain aspects of the plane’s mysterious disappearance. Specifically, “No Ali, No Frasier, but for now off to Malaysia” and “Two passports, three cities, two countries, one day.” According to the UK’s Daily Mirror:
Viewers on YouTube are convinced the two passports is a reference to the stolen Austrian and Italian passports used by two Iranians to board MH370. They also believe the three cities refer to the capital cities of Malaysia, China and Vietnam and the two countries are Malaysia and Vietnam. Furthermore, they assert the lyrics “No Ali, No Frasier, but for now off to Malaysia” are a reference to Mr Ali, the man who bought tickets for the two Iranians to travel on board MH370.

Flight MH370 crashed in the southern Indian Ocean leaving no survivors, Prime Minister Najib Razak said today, citing new analysis of satellite data that pegged the plane’s last known position was in a “remote location” west of Perth “far from any possible landing sites.” Continued Razak, as per CNN and other breaking reports, “it is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new data, Flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.” Read more on Newser…
What is UP with dudes these days? First there was Alexey Bykov, the guy who pretended to die in a car crash in order to make his girlfriend realize how she can’t live without him (really, really). Now there comes the story of Ryan Thompson, a guy who pretended that the small plane he was flying was going to crash in order to propose to his girlfriend Carlie Kennedy. He planted the proposal in a flight checklist, and while pretending that the plane was going down, he asked her to read from the checklist. Despite the elaborate and terrifying ruse, she accepted (they always do, don’t they?)
Yemenia Airways Flight 626 very sadly crashed early this morning in the Indian Ocean. And of the 142 passengers and 11 crewmembers on board, the sole survivor is a 5-year-old boy. The flight was set to land at the Comoros Islands having originated in France, but descended through bad weather and lost contact with air traffic control. In 2007, faults had been reported with this jet and it seems that the 70-mile per hour winds the plane faced on landing got the best of it. Very scarily, this is the second airbus to crash into the ocean this month. On the other hand, there is one very fortunate survivor. [ABC] Keep reading »
This is some sad news. DJ A.M. (real name: Adam Goldstein), best known as Nicole Richie’s ex-fiance, and Travis Barker, of the band Blink-182 were involved in a very serious plane crash early this morning in South Carolina. Both are being treated for serious burns, but are alive. Unfortunately, four others in the private jet were not as lucky, and were killed with the plane crashed and caught fire. One of those killed was Chris Baker, Barker’s assistant.
The group was flying on the private jet in an effort to get back to California quickly after Goldstein and Barker played a show because Baker had just found out his wife had gone into labor. Barker promised to get him home as quickly as possible to be with her — freaking tragic. The two pilots, as well as Barker’s bodyguard, were also killed. Barker and Goldstein are being treated for their burn injuries and are in critical, but stable condition. [DListed]
UPDATE: Apparently the note above about Chris Baker’s wife being in labor is total poppycock. Keep reading »
