Style On The Street: Check Marks The Spot

Okay, so I have absolutely no idea what is going on with this girl. I am hoping that it was Halloween when this photo was taken. Either that, or she’s an actress in a horror movie and she didn’t have a chance to take off her blood makeup. That being said, her buffalo plaid cardigan is great.

Cheapskate: If You Like Plaid, You Should Shop At JC Penney

The past couple days we’ve been exploring different stores like Wal-Mart and Kohl’s in an attempt to suss out whether they sell clothes on the cheap that we would actually want to purchase. Today, we’re looking at JC Penney, which seems to sell a lot of plaid items, including a taffeta skirt that would be perfect for a holiday party. This is wonderful for me because plaid is my favorite color. Come spring, non-plaid lovers will also flock to JC Penney, because Charlotte Ronson is designing a line for the department store. Did Mary-Kate Ditch Her BF For Jonah Hill?

The National Enquirer reports that Mary-Kate Olsen and Jonah Hill went on a secret double-date at Chateau Marmont last week. “Mary-Kate and Jonah sat close together and seemed totally into each other,” a source told the tabloid. “They were both wearing plaid shirts that almost matched. It was the cutest thing.” You might be thinking, Wait! Didn’t MK go to a Radiohead concert with her plaid-wearing boyfriend Nate Lowman the night before her supposed date with Jonah? Yes, yes, that is true. But the Enquirer has gotten so many things correct that it’s hard to completely ignore them. And no matter which guy she chooses, plaid wins. [AHN] Keep reading »

Fashion Slideshow: Mad About Plaid

The preppy costumes on Gossip Girl may be the reason why plaid is everywhere this Fall. But retailers have taken the pattern well beyond its uniform and hunter roots. This season you’ll find plaid in pastel hues and muted tones. Although plaid flannel is still a staple, designers are also offering plaid in unexpected fabrics like chiffon and taffeta. So check out the slideshow after the jump to learn how you can wear plaid from your shoulders to your toes. Keep reading »

Style On The Street: A Belt That’s Not Holding Up Pants

J.Crew is always styling their catalog models in skirts with tank tops, cardigans, and a belt on the outside. This girl must have seen one of their catalogs and thought, “that belt thing is something, but I only wear neutral colors — no plaid or poppy red for me.” [Trender Bender] Keep reading »

Stylehiving: Kirsten Dunst Is Mad About Plaid

Normally Kirsten Dunst gets on my last nerve, but I am loving this outfit. Softing shorty-short-shorts with a Paul Bunyon-esque plaid shirt and low wedges is a smooth move. There are three version of her look after the jump, for every size bank account, but you can also add additional accessorites, like a white tote bag and the latest copy of Rolling Stone with Barack Obama on the cover. Oh, and a lemonade. Keep reading »

Crave: Kimchi & Blue Plaid Frock

I love the idea of adapting out-of-season things for the current season. This plaid screams winter, but is actually the perfect sun dress with a lightweight cotton fabric. And it gets better — the dress has hidden side pockets, just in case you need a place to store last year’s stocking stuffers. [$48, Kimchi & Blue at UrbanOutfitters.com]

Crave: Quiksilver’s New Duds

So I’m flipping through Lucky this morning, which is normally filled with clothes I totally can’t afford (seriously, a $700 shirt guys?), when I noticed a blurb about Quiksilver. You know, the surf clothing company? Apparently they’ve hired a new designer and she’s taking their women’s street wear line in a totally new, awesome direction. Check out the look above, plus a few others after the jump. Catherine, who is out of the office today, is totally going to go ape&%$# for that tie-neck dress. The line won’t start becoming available until mid-July, so mark your calendars. If that dress sells out though, we will know who to blame! [Quiksilver.com] Keep reading »
