“The Pinterest 100″ Predicts 2015 Trends

Looking for a little inspiration to bring with you into the new year? The Pinterest 100 collection is full of ideas on what to do, wear, eat, make and try in 2015. The board was compiled using trending pins on the site, pins from influential users, and a few selected by Pinterest employees. I’m seeing some common themes on this board — a whole lot of yoga, gardening and home DIYs. Sounds a whole lot like 2014, but hey, I’m not about to turn down free inspiration! This board is perfect for that mid-January slump when you start itching for new hobbies and plans. [Travel + Leisure]

Pinterest Accidentally Congratulates Single Women On Getting Engaged

Among the many, many ladies who make wedding boards on Pinterest, a pretty epic percentage of them don’t have a fiance (or even a significant other). That seems to be common knowledge for Pinterest users — some single pinners could care less about what people think of the cutesy board of place settings they put together in between spreadsheets at the office. Others are more a fan of what can only be called a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy and expect that nobody on the interwebs acknowledge their not-so-engaged status because despite the lack of a wedding on the horizon they happen to enjoy looking at the design aspects of reception decor, thank you very much. Instead, Pinterest awkwardly sent a bunch of single women emails congratulating them on their engagement. Weirder still is that while some of the email recipients have pinned things like invitations or dresses, many of them have never pinned any wedding-related content. Ugh, interwebs, please do not use womankind’s collective inbox as yet another place to nag us about marriage. I don’t know about the rest of you, but my Facebook newsfeed and annual interrogations about my personal life at Thanksgiving dinner do that job all on their own. Keep reading »

Found: The Most Perfect Mason Jar Of Them All

If Pinterest Was Real
A cautionary poem. Read More »

Like any twenty-something middle class white woman with a Pinterest account, I love mason jars. I want to organize and compartmentalize my entire life in a collection of artfully arranged mason jars. I firmly believe there is no such thing as too many mason jars. I will always say yes to mason jars. So when Jarden Home Brands contacted me and asked if I’d like to give their 100th anniversary green mason jars a spin, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. Of course I said yes.

I opted for the pint size jars, which are perfectly proportioned to use as drinking glasses, for DIY projects, or storing a wide variety of foods, cosmetics, toiletries, or large spiders that you don’t want to kill but are too scared to put outside.  The green tint is so eye-catching and ideal for decorating around the house. Also they’re made in the USA. What’s not to love?

Here is a brief sampling of the ways I’ve used my mason jars so far, none of which are earth-shatteringly original, but damn if these things aren’t versatile: Keep reading »

12 Cheesy Inspirational Quotes I Pinned On Pinterest This Year (That Were Actually Good)

2013 was a year of enormous personal upheaval for me. I met my life partner and married him just five months later at City Hall. I lost a friend to suicide. I distanced myself from people who weren’t proving themselves to be interested in the caliber of friendship that I want to invest in. I made huge strides in standing up for myself and not taking other people’s bullshit — a lot of which had to do with the wedding.

Most of the changes that occurred were ultimately good for me. At least, that’s how I choose to look at them. All of the changes, though, required me to get out of my comfort zone  in order to figure out what was right for me. I’ve always been a risktaker, but this year felt especially poignant.  Keep reading »
