Something sure looks … off … about the August cover of Cosmopolitan. Cover girl Britney Spears’ head seems really, well, disconnected from the rest of her body, like a Barbie head that’s not quite attached. Chatter on the internet suggests that Britney’s face, at least, is from a recent head shot, but the body … well, that is BritBrit in ye olden days if you ask me. All of which suggests Cosmo didn’t actually conduct a new shoot with Britney for their cover. Photoshop Of Horrors: Lindsey Wixson

We’ve written about 15-year-old model Lindsey Wixson here before, and now her new ad campaign for Miu Miu, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot, is floating its way around the fashion blogs. This shot in particular caught our eye. No doubt, Wixson is tall and skinny, but that leg? It looks either very, very skinny and very, very long, or it’s been weirdly tweaked by that magical body-morphing process known as Photoshop. These days, there’s a great deal of discussion over how thin is too thin in the modeling world, and why those in the magazine and advertising industries insist upon tweaking women’s bodies into unreal, unsightly proportions. It’s hard to tell if what’s going on here is a pair of coltish legs or a photo-manipulator gone wild. Either way, it looks … alien. Isn’t Wixson interesting-looking enough on her own? Demi’s Bizarro Hips May Actually Belong To Another Woman!

Remember the controversy over Demi Moore’s W cover, in which it appeared that the magazine’s retouchers had photoshopped her hip to be thinner than her waist? Well, it turns out those bizarro proportions may actually belong to a real, live, breathing woman! The highly observant blogger behind Pop Culture Madness has noted that the body Demi’s head is on may actually belong to a model who wore the same dress in Balmain’s runway show.

“Check out what it appears to be 36 year old Anja Rubik’s superimposed body… scratch that – her body was attached to Demi Moore’s for the sake of a better cover image. You have to wonder, did Demi even wear the same Balmain dress?”

The image she presents as proof — Demi’s cover super-imposed over Rubik’s body — is startling. W claims that “nothing unusual” was done when retouching the cover image, but let’s face it: photoshopping the living hell out of images is par for the course these days. So what do you think?
