I am generally involved in a passionate love affair with Mila Kunis’s wardrobe, both her decadent red carpet dresses (the lavender Elie Saab she wore for the 2011 Academy Awards was one of the most gorgeous things I have ever laid eyes on) and her low-key but chic off-duty ensembles. She has an amazing body and knows how to dress it in a way that manages to be simultaneously jaw-droppingly sexy and totally relatable, like Monica Bellucci with a copious dash of Meg Griffin — I wonder why? But when it comes to this look (all Phillip Lim with the exception of her Dior pumps) from yesterday’s CinemaCon, I’m ambivalent. For the record, I am firmly pro-formal shorts, even metallic ones, so that is not the issue here. I like almost everything about it: the boxy jacket and peachy nude blouse are spot-on, as are the shoes, but the waist of the shorts and the way the light catches the sheen of the fabric leave Mila looking lumpy in the midsection. I’m not saying she looks fat or anything like that at all, but literally lumpy and just unflattering. What do you think: am I being nitpicky? Do you love this look, or would you leave the shiny shorts at home? On Ashton Kutcher’s bedroom floor, perhaps?

Phillip Lim’s New Lingerie Line Is For Sweethearts

We love Phillip Lim‘s signature 3.1 line, but generally can’t afford too much of it. Lim’s first undergarment collection has just hit boutiques, and we’re a bit ambivalent. On the one hand, the $80-$195 price range makes owning a Lim piece closer within reach; on the other, 100 bones is a lot to drop on a bra. Either way, the designs provide some great lingerie inspiration. Instead of being overtly sexy, Lim goes for the sweet and demure with dainty silk bralets, eyelet-hemmed skirt slips (so retro!), and details like scalloped edges and lace. Suffice it to say, bad girls are allowed to wear these pieces, too. [LaGarconne.com] Keep reading »

Hats On Or Hats Off

“Woman who love to play with fantasy are naturally disposed to a hat,” explains Alison Waters, a hat-wearer who lives in Melbourne, Australia. “A hat makes you feel marvelous and lifts your mood instantly. It’s an accessory that completes everything, not just the face.” In fact, Alison never leaves the house without one of her 160 hats atop her head. This Sunday is Easter (if you celebrate), and the only day that might be more associated with hats might be the Kentucky Derby. While wearing a hat is no longer a requirement in society — the only time I wear a hat is when I go to a baseball game or when it’s chilly outside — designers are still putting hats on the runway, season after season. If you’re planning on sporting a bonnet this Sunday, check out some options after the jump, and let us know whether you’d wear them in the comments. Keep reading »
