Saturday was New York City’s 23rd annual Tompkins Square Park Dog Halloween Parade, where tons of pooches prance around in ridiculous costumes and win awards that only their owners truly appreciate. Though Tompkins Square Park is only a few blocks from my apartment, my dog Lucca is a snot and refuses to let me dress her up, so I’m forced to live vicariously through all the other dog owners whose pups are game for, say, playing James Franco’s character in “Spring Breakers.” Jealous. (It’s okay, I still love you, Lu, even if you’re no fun.) Click on to see some truly squee-worthy Halloween dogs! [Photos via Flickr, Facebook and Gothamist]
Corgis are, to me, God’s comedy. I understand that they had some breeding reason to make a dog with short legs and a wide body, but come on, look at those guys! THEY ARE WALKING HILARITY! And what’s better than a regular ol’ corgi doing corgi things? A corgi in a costume. Which is why we’re presenting you with 10 corgis all decked out for Halloween. Get ready!
John DeVore has a, heh, pet peeve: dogs in Santa hats and elf suits and Mrs. Claus glasses. Over at Dumb As A Blog, he’s assembled 20 visual examples of dogs loathing the holidays for this very reason, complete with hilarious captions. Check it out here!
We’re super excited for Halloween and can’t wait to get your Halloween pet pics! But in the meantime, we’ve collected some of our favorite animal costumes from around the web. Enjoy, and don’t forget to send yours in!
Halloween is just around the corner, and that means one thing: No, not buying discount day-after-Halloween candy and eating the whole bag and falling into a deep shame spiral (though we plan on doing that, too). Dressing your pet up in a stupid costume! Isn’t that what this holiday is all about? There’s nothing better than seeing a pug wagging his tail nub in a hot dog suit, or a poodle dressed up like a friggin’ bumblebee. Everybody loves laughing at a helpless animal in a superhero costume, so much so that pet costumes have now ballooned to a more than $300 million dollar business. Yes, we are a bunch crazy people.
So with that in mind, we’d love to see your best Halloween pet pics! Send us pictures of your pets in their Halloween finest (from this year or from years prior) and we’ll include them in an upcoming slideshow! The spookier the better!
