You’d think if a brand pays who-knows-how-much for a celebrity to star in their ad campaign, they’d want that celebrity to be recognizable in the final product. That brings us to the new ads for Gucci’s latest fragrance, Guilty. Recognize the actress seen here? I sure didn’t; I had to look it up to identify her. Here are a few hints: she’s young, her fiance is scary, and she’s been nominated for a Golden Globe. Still can’t figure out who it is? Check out another image and find out after the jump. It seems every celebrity has a fragrance nowadays, and oftentimes you get the feeling the celebrity slapped their name on the perfume bottle without regard for what was actually in it. This is not the case with Outspoken by Fergie. The singer not only worked with Avon for two years to develop the fragrance, but also, somehow, captured her essence in a bottle. Keep reading »
Here at The Frisky, anything that enhances frisky business seems like good business. What could be better than a perfume that has a distinct scent, but also leads to seduction? Nothing. Soulgasm, a new perfume by Sasha Varon, is deep, sheer, and definitely intense. The base of the perfume is clean musk, warm amber, and a sweet French vanilla. Jasmine, lily, and woodberry comprise the heart of the perfume, with some black currant, freesia, peach, and pear notes in it, as well.

Time for today’s episode of “Crap You Definitely Don’t Need!” And what, you ask, is today’s over-the-top item awaiting ridicule? It’s none other than Joya Perfume, the scent that comes in a hand-crafted porcelain bottle with — wait for it — a 22 karat gold-dipped applicator. Because sometimes expensive perfume isn’t classy enough if you aren’t applying it with solid gold, right? And in case you try out Joya only to find that you can’t quite bear going back to the peasant-ready glass bottles of yore, fear not, there are two scents to choose from. We’re not sure how much they cost, but mortgage your house and we’re sure you’ll be able to buy them both! [Advertising Is Good For You] Keep reading »
When Nick Cannon proposed to his lady, Mariah Carey, he hid her engagement rock inside a Ring Pop lollipop, as a nod to her love for the candy, then replicated his originality in an encrusted lollipop for their anniversary. Now, Mariah’s planning to capitalize off her sweet tooth by launching a line of fragrances with Bazooka Candy Brands. Yes, you read that right. Mariah plans to introduce the world to her candy scents this July, available in three fragrances: Honey, Mine Again, and Ribbon, so everyone can smell just as sweet as her. “I think this line really comes with a fresh approach that is both innovative and accessible to my loyal fan base and beyond, but will bring something new to the market,” she explained, totally justifying her decision to combine the world of beauty and candy. While Mariah’s most likely aiming to sell to a more sophisticated market, this sounds like the perfect present for your 8-year-old daughter, niece, or cousin. [WWD] Keep reading »
The scene: A group of Sony execs at a brainstorming meeting.
Exec #1: “We need to begin promotion for the release of ‘Eat, Pray, Love‘. Marketing ideas?”
Exec #2: “Women like ‘Eat, Pray, Love’. What other things do women like?”
Exec#1: “Shoes. Cupcakes.”
Exec #2: “Perfume.”
Exec #1: “Perfume’s good. Girls like perfume. Let’s go with that.”
This is how we imagine Sony’s marketing team came up with their cross-promotional initiatives to publicize the unapologetically female-focused Julia Roberts flick, due out in August. Hence, Fresh’s line of “Eat, Pray, Love” fragrances was born. The beauty company has produced a trio of scents corresponding to the movie’s three categories, and we’d imagine each attempts to evoke the essence of writer Elizabeth Gilbert’s journey. Smells like Hollywood, dontcha think? [W Magazine Blog] Keep reading »
