Time To Cry: Gay Penguin Couple Finally Gets An Egg Of Their Own
Inca and Rayas are a pair of Gentoo penguins who have been in a committed relationship since they first met at a Madrid zoo six years ago. Every year since then, they’ve built a nest together in the apparent hopes that they could hatch and raise a baby penguin, but every year the nest has sat empty, most likely because Inca and Rayas are both male. This year, however, a penguin egg donor is finally making their dreams come true. “We wanted them to have something to stay together for — so we got an egg. Otherwise they might have become depressed,” said their keeper, Yolanda Martin. Initial reports reveal that Inca has been perching on the egg throughout the day, while Rayas stands guard. Penguin Couple Gets Married 28 Times For Valentine’s Day
In honor of Valentine’s Day, this penguin pair got married every day, twice a day, from Feb. 1-14, at China’s Shanghai Ocean Aquarium. Their Groundhogs Day-style ceremony went something like this: the couple arrived in a lucite box via remote-controlled Audi followed by a processional of two humans in penguin suits, they exchange head wreaths in front of a crowd of onlookers and rubbed beaks to seal the deal. And this is supposed to be romantic? Twenty-eight weddings in one month? I’m surprised they still can stand to be in the same lucite box with one another. I’m sure those gay penguins in Montreal are feeling really shitty about this ostentatious mockery of of the institution. The Sweater Penguins Have Been De-Sweatered & Set Free
The penguins the world lovingly clothed in sweaters to prevent them from preening toxins off their feathers following an oil spill near New Zealand are nude once again. Good Morning America aired footage of 39 of the more than 300 affected penguins being released back into the wild, now wearing microchips. Watch the video here…
Knit New Zealand’s Penguins A Sweater Already
The penguins living on the shores of New Zealand’s north island have been suffering of late, thanks to a disastrous oil spill that occurred there earlier this month. But! Now there’s something we can do to help the little guys — knit ‘em some sweaters. It seems that penguin sweaters are needed to help keep the birds warm and prevent them from ingesting too much oil as a result of preening their feathers. Also, they are super cute.
This isn’t the first time penguin sweaters have been employed. Rescuers have actually been using surplus sweaters from a 2001 penguin sweater initiative.
