Minx Nails, You Saw Them Here First!

Everyone has been talking about Minx Nails lately. The nail art was featured in a recent issue of Vogue and on “Today” this morning, but I have to say these “news” outlets are a little behind. The Frisky gave you the dish on Minx back in October, and even interviewed manicurist, Lisa Logan, who was responsible for Beyonce and Solange’s Obama nails that were popular during the presidential campaign.

Last week, I had the pleasure of getting my nails dipped in gold. OK, not really, but I got close. I had Minx Nails applied in gold on eight fingers and gold cheetah on two fingers. It was kind of weird to have a “dry manicure.” I had trouble remembering that my nails weren’t wet, even though I just had them done. I kept the Minx Nails on for a few days and found myself admiring them quite often. However, I don’t think they’ll replace my normal manicure — they’re more for special occasions. The pedicures, however, I could get behind. A Minx pedicure supposedly lasts three times as long as the manicure. Keep reading »

Bootie Pies: Convenience I Don’t Understand

I was flipping through New York magazine at the gym last night and was absolutely puzzled when I came across a small ad for something called “Bootie Pies.” These boots are made for wearing during the winter after you get a pedicure. The company means well. They don’t want your newly painted nails to get smushed in shoes, or for your feet to get frostbite from wearing flip-flops home from the salon. But the aesthetics just aren’t there. Basically, the boots are Uggs with a removal toe covering. They also have a zipper in the back that allows you to slip your foot in easily. It’s true that peep-toe booties are in right now, but these don’t fall into that category (and that trend is questionable anyway). Why spend $128 on ugly boots when you can just spend an extra 5 minutes at the drying station? If it snows, your Bootie Pies certainly won’t protect your tootsies. [Bootie Pies] Keep reading »

My Feet No Longer Make Me Feel Ashamed: Why I Love The Ped-Egg

I have a bit of a foot problem. For whatever reason, despite fairly frequent pedicures, especially during the winter months (which I pay for less out of vanity and more because I friggin’ lovvvvve a salon massage chair [that does the kneeding NOT the vibrating, FYI]), my feet, while perfectly shaped (fact), are so dry, they peel. Maybe it’s because I under moisturize them, but then again, the only place I moisturize is my face, because I am low maintenance. Couple this natural dry peeling with my OCD, and you’ve got many wasted hours sitting in front of the TV, peeling off bits of my foot skin. I know this is disgusting, but there is a point to the madness of this post. I have just discovered the Ped-Egg and I am forever changed. Should they desire my services I would become their version of Jessica Simpson for Pro-Active. For serious. Keep reading »
