Chictopia Users Find Themselves Unexpectedly Starring In Payless Ads

We’re still trying to wrap our brains around the bizarre intellectual property fiasco brought about by Payless Shoes and Chictopia. In a nutshell, several fashion bloggers who posted their own self-styled photos to Chictopia (a social network that allows users to upload pics and engage in an online community) unexpectedly found themselves featured in a campaign for Payless. From the bloggers’ side of things, several expressed that they wouldn’t have been so disturbed had Chictopia informed them of what was going on, and if they’d done so, the bloggers might actually have been into the idea. In an article on the website International Fashion Bloggers, one girl involved explains:

“I wear Payless shoes and they’re a huge company with a lot of reach, so I was excited to have gotten their attention. Then, when I clicked through the campaign, it struck me that this was not a mutually beneficial situation. The only people who stood to gain traffic or profit from the campaign were Chictopia and Payless. I was really disappointed because I would have loved to work one-on-one with Payless on a campaign if they were interested in my personal style and my outfits featuring their shoes, but instead they cut me out and worked on a deal with Chictopia instead.”

Bridesmaid Shoes That Won’t Break The Bank

If you’re in a friend’s wedding, be prepared to spend big bucks, because you’ll have to buy everything from a plane ticket to your bridesmaid dress. And if the bride wants all her ladies in waiting to wear matching shoes, that’s another hundred bucks out the window. Hopefully you can convince her to go with a less expensive footwear option, like this ridiculously good-looking pair from Payless. That’s right, Payless. Lela Rose hand-picked 15 dyeable styles (and 64 custom colors) for the retailer’s Unforgettable Moments collection, and they all cost under $50, including the dye job and shipping. The Nathalie (pictured) is so cute we’d buy them even if we didn’t have to. [$44.99, Unforgettable Moments]

Would You Buy Lip Gloss At Payless?

Payless Shoes Source, home to pleather heels and buy-one-get-one-free deals galore, wants to be your new makeup mecca. With that in mind, they’ll be offering makeup and bath and body products in September. With names like “Unforgettable Moments” and “Zoe & Zac,” the lines seem to promise lots of sparkle and, umm, other interesting things. Are we the only ones who are a little put off by the concept of buying blush in the same place you’d buy knockoff Birkenstocks? Would you buy makeup at Payless? Ballet Flats That Aren’t Boring

Ballet flats better not go out of style during our lifetime. They’re comfortable and cute, a combination we rarely find in our closet, and our feet simply wouldn’t know what to do without them. We’ll slip on this Lela Rose for Payless pair, which features an origami-like bow, to make basic outfits less blah. Even though there’s a lot going on with the pattern and toe decoration, the neutral gray and white coloring means we can wear them on a regular basis, provided snow isn’t in the forecast. Sneak Peek At Christian Siriano’s New Heels For Payless!

Season after season, I fall in love with the designs that Christian Siriano sends down the runway. So as soon as I heard that he would team up with Payless to provide his shoe designs to the lower priced store, I was floored and obsessed. After sitting in his runway show, I’d stalk the blogs for any details about the upcoming collection, but his looks were always slightly toned down for mass appeal. (Here’s a past collection.) And yet again for spring 2010, I was fully expecting his towering heels to receive their bland Payless spin, though undoubtedly I would still stalk the store to check them out. Boy, was I wrong. Here’s a peek at the shoes set to appear in stores come mid-March for spring 2010, and they’re anything but calm. At $79.99 each, these are heels which are certainly an investment price for Payless shoes, but as long as this is actually what appears in stores, I’ll be more than pleased — I’ll be a new Siriano shoe owner. Christian Siriano For Payless 2.0

So, is it fierce enough for you?  Christian Siriano of “Project Runway” fame is continuing his collaboration with Payless Shoes. If you remember, the budget shoe company sponsored Siriano’s spike studded footwear for his fashion show during New York Fashion Week back in February. His runway shoes have inspired his Fall 2009 collection for Payless which will be in stores this August and retail between $30 and $50. Egyptian hieroglyphics are a strong inspiration for the collection which will feature metallic fabrics, chain metal details, and teals and turquoise tones reminiscent of the Nile. Like the designer himself, the shoes sound a bit dramatic — but I think they are actually cute. This teal “Slither” bootie is one of several styles in the range and will retail for $49.99. What do you think? Ferosh or hot tranny mess? Keep reading »

Christian Siriano For Payless Looks Dangerously ‘Meh’

And I do mean dangerous! Those spikes could mess a bitch up! The “Project Runway” winner just showed at Fashion Week, but chances are, his upcoming line for Payless is the only Siriano-approved hot tranny fierceness the average woman can afford. Expected to be priced at an affordable $25-$45 per pair when they come out in fall, the line of budget footwear is conceptually aligned with Siriano’s fashion line, which used a lot of brown and turquoise. The shoes are certainly fashion forward for Payless, but they’re also a little underwhelming considering the source. Still, when these hits stores, I’m going to check them out in person. They’ve got to be better than the hideous styles designed by Patricia Field and Alice + Olivia. [NY Mag] Keep reading »

Craves We Regret: Nail Pens, Target Dresses, & Hooker Heels

We recommend a lot of rad products, clothing designers, and crave-able items on The Frisky. Occasionally, however, we discover that an item was not worthy of our desire or endorsement and we want to take it back. After finally sampling a few of these goods ourselves, we’re totally not craving:
1. Sally Hansen Nail Pen: I finally tried this bad boy and discovered two things: A) A nail PEN is a really good idea and definitely makes polish application easier, but B) the actual polish colors available are heinous (I made the mistake of going for a iridescent opal which was trés old lady), they apply very thin and watery, and they dry extremely matte.
