Paul McCartney Reflects On The Anniversary Of John Lennon’s Death

“I was at home and I got a phone call, it was early in the morning…it was just so horrific, you couldn’t take it in…Just for days, you couldn’t think he was gone. It was just a huge shock and I had to tell Linda [Paul's late wife] and the kids. It was very difficult. It was very difficult for anyone. That was like a really big shock in most people’s lives, a bit like Kennedy… For me, it was just so sad that I wasn’t going to see him again…and for me the biggest thing was that the guy who took his life, the phrase kept going in my head ‘jerk of all jerks.’…This is not even a guy who was politically motivated, it was a totally random thing…it would have been the worst thing in the world to have this great relationship that then soured and he gets killed, so there was some solace in the fact that we got back together. We were good friends.”

Paul McCartney reflected on John Lennon’s murder on the “Jonathan Ross Show” to commemorate the anniversary of his bandmate’s death. The musician noted how glad he was that the two had reconnected since the Beatles’ breakup before Lennon’s death and what a shock the loss was. Paul McCartney Is Hospitalized With A Viral Infection

  • Paul McCartney has reportedly been hospitalized with a viral infection and has had to postpone several concerts in Japan this past week. On May 18, McCartney posted on his website, “I was really hoping that I’d be feeling better today. I’m so disappointed and sorry to be letting my fans down.” It’s unclear whether this will impact his upcoming American summer tour. Feel better, Paul! [Variety]
  • Miley Cyrus tweeted (and then deleted) a denial that she saw Jennifer Lawrence puking at Madonna’s Oscar party. The actress told the story of her post-Academy Awards upchuck on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” last night, saying that Miley was not only there to witness it, but actually told her to “get it together.” Who to believe?!??!? Aww, Yoko And Paul McCartney Are Friends Again (Sort Of)

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Paul McCartney says he gets along just fine with John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono, despite the all the past resentment that seemed to have boiled between them.

Back when the Beatles were starting to deteriorate, Yoko’s tendency for hanging out in their recording studio and sitting in on private sessions irked Paul. But time, he says, has allowed him to let go of his grudge and heal. He mused:

“If John loved her, there’s got to be something. He’s not stupid.” Keep reading »

““She certainly didn’t break the group up. I don’t think you can blame her for anything. … When Yoko came along, part of her attraction was her avant garde side, her view of things,” he continued. “She showed him another way to be, which was very attractive to him. So it was time for John to leave.”

–That’s “cute” Beatle Paul McCartney, trying to definitively dispell the myth that Yoko Ono was responsible for the breakup of  the band. I know there are some diehard Beatles fanatics who will always hold Yoko responsible. But really? Do you think John Lennon would ever do anything he didn’t totally want to do? Come on. [Fox News]

“We started to get a theory that when you don’t go [to the Grammys], that’s when you win. But Nancy [Shevell, McCartney's wife] likes the event, and I do too, because she does. In some ways, it’s better than the Oscars – the Oscars are great and super-important, but the Grammys is like a really cool concert and you get some very good performances. But this is what happens: We went a couple of times and sort of sat there, and graciously accepted defeat. With that moment you look for at the Oscars or the Grammys, when the cameras go to the people who didn’t win, and they’re smiling wonderfully and applauding. ‘And the winner is – John Mayer!’ And you go: [through clenched teeth] ‘Oh, wonderful. How wonderful. What a good singer.’ Secretly you’re thinking, ‘He’s not as good as me though.’ It’s a very human moment.”

7 Great Performances From Last Night’s Hurricane Sandy Relief Concert

Bruce! Bon Jovi! Alicia! Kanye! And More!

Last night, a whole mess of iconic musicians got together for the epic “12-12-12″ Hurricane Sandy Relief Concert, which aired on a number of different TV networks and lasted nearly six hours. While the show was definitely lacking in female performers — where were New York City legends like Patti Smith or Bette Midler?! — it was chock full of big name acts like Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Alicia Keys (holdin’ it down for the ladies), Kanye West (wearing a controversial leather skirt), Paul McCartney, the remaining members of Nirvana, Billy Joel, and The Who. I couldn’t clip the whole show, obviously, but here are seven performances that I especially enjoyed!
