The Frisky staff is constantly lending our most loved books, swapping recommendations, and just in general being big-ass nerds. We’re not the kinds of blog that keeps you up-to-date on all the best new books that were published in 2011. Patti Smith, When She Was Just A Kid

If you were a fan of Patti Smith’s moving memoir Just Kids, then you’ll probably be really into this great book of photographs by Judy Linn. But even if you haven’t read Smith’s incredible elegy to her friendship with artist Robert Mapplethorpe, you’ll probably want to check out Linn’s work. She and Patti developed a quick and fast friendship, which informed the intimate nature of the photographs Linn was able to snap of Smith and her various friends and lovers. Her photographs are a stirring chronicle of Smith’s pre-fame life, and a quiet glimpse into a true artistic collaboration.

Dear Film Industry,

Hey there! What’s up? I heard a rumor that you are working on a biopic of Patti Smith‘s memoir, Just Kids. Wow! I can’t say I’m surprised. It was a bestseller, winner of a National Book Award, and my favorite book of this year, aside from Freedom, which you will probably make into a movie too. But that’s not what I wanted to say.
