Last night, Tiffany’s held a party hosted by photographers Scott Schuman and Garance Dore. The party was DJed by Beyonce’s little sister Solange. So far, sounds like every other semi-famous people party, right? It would seem that Surrealist artist Salvador Dali and Bob Hope wouldn’t travel in the same circles, but oh no, they do! Mr. Hope was once invited to a party at Dali’s house themed around guest’s worst nightmares. We’re guessing Hope’s worst nightmare was probably being at a Surrealist party, because the comedian appears none too thrilled in this news reel footage of the event. It’s holiday time again, which for me means lots of parties to go to … solo. My first instinct is usually to try to snag a pal to bring with me to party crash, but recently, I was invited to a party where the host explicitly instructed guests not to bring a plus one. I was dreading showing up there, thinking it would be uncomfortable, but once I arrived, I embraced it and ended up having a great time. After I deftly extricated myself from a dull conversation with an awkward woman with a neck twitch, I hit it off with a group of dudes with nerdy glasses who shared my love of stupid dance moves. Over the weekend I threw a big birthday bash for my husband’s 40th. Throw Your Child A Swine Flu Party!

We’ve heard of chicken pox parties, where parents get their healthy kids together with ones who have the pox hoping that they’ll pick up the germies. The idea is, since you can only get chicken pox once, to get it over with so that kids can build up their immune systems and avoid getting chicken pox vaccines. Yeah, we don’t think it’s a good idea, but at least it makes slight logical sense.

However, we just don’t get why some mothers are thinking about throwing swine flu parties. Same idea, different disease—they want to strengthen their children’s immune systems in case a stronger swine flu strain comes around in the fall. But a swine flu party is just outrageous! Doctors are firmly warning against the idea as several people have died from H1N1 in the months it’s been around. So mothers, if you know what’s best, skip the Swine Par-tay.
