Real-Life Party Crashers Revealed!

The Vanity Fair Oscar party was crashed for the first time in 15 years on Sunday. The crasher, Gawker’s Ravi Somaiya had to sneak in hours in advance, steal passes left idle for a moment in a back room and hide in stairwells all to enjoy about seven minutes of party-going. While this may sound a bit frivolous, the duplicity required to get through the army of security guards, ex-CIA agents and celebrity handlers surrounding that event is actually pretty impressive and it has us thinking about our own party-crashing feats. While none rival Somaiya’s badass foray into the VF party, we’ve got a few accomplishments under our belts! (Like I may or may not have talked my way into 10 to 15 fashion shows I wasn’t invited to my first season in New York.) A few readers have pitched in their own tales of gate-crashing after the jump and we’d love to see yours in the comments! Keep reading »

New Year’s Fun: Confettisystem’s Pinatas And Urban Outfitters Collab

They say New Year’s Eve is always a letdown, so why not let your guests take out their frustration at the party? Check out Confettisystem’s sparkly pinatas, which double as decorations and party activities. The only thing is that these designer pinatas are pricey ($135 each), so if you’re up for the splurge, why not take a whack?

Luckily, Confettisystem has teamed up with Urban Outfitters to make a cheaper holiday line (design for the masses!) which includes packets of confetti and twisted metallic tree ornaments. Unfortunately, we came too late to snatch up one of the $28 pinatas — they just sold out online — but there might still be a few at your local Urban branch. Don’t forget the blindfold! What To Wear When You’re Playing Hostess

Everything is set up for your perfect dinner party or get-together. The menu is ready and the decorations are up. All that’s left is to pick out what you are going to wear. We’ve all been there, staring into our closets and emptying our drawers, clueless about what would be the best outfit for the occasion. Here then are some do’s and don’ts of hostess attire.

Family Holidays
The main outfits to avoid when you’re playing hostess for extended family is anything that could make relatives uncomfortable.

Do wear a cute Mrs. Clause costume to entertain the little ones, or a favorite Easter bunny light-up sweater paired with a cute hat.
Don’t wear something your significant other would rather see you in alone. Keep reading »

How To Throw An Adult Prom Party!

It’s prom time, ladies, and we’re all waaay too old to participate. Sounds sad, but just think: no more rhinestone-encrusted mess of a dress, no more too-fancy tiaras, and no more way-awkward posed pics. Yay!

But just because we’ve all passed that monumental mark doesn’t mean that we can’t do it up better in homages to high school dances gone by. Throwing a grown up-style prom has its benefits, not least of which is worrying about the state of your V-card at the end of the night.

So, let’s get down to party planning business. It’s time for Prom Part Deux, and this one’s going to be off the hook. Keep reading »

Crave: ClinQs Reusable Drink Stickers

Back when we were sweet young things, our moms taught us that sharing is caring. Like, if we had a cool new toy, we had to let our playschool friends in on the fun. Now that we’re older, we’re cool with lending gal pals clothes, but we’d rather not swap spit with them by mixing up our drink glasses. ClinQs reusable drink stickers let you toast until the booze runs out without catching a bug from your BFFs. Our drink is the one with the boombox on it, so back off. [$5.50, ClinQs.com]

We’re giving away five sets of ClinQs reusable drink stickers, but you have to work if you want to keep your rosé to yourself. The five best commenters for this coming week — from today, Friday, April 24, through Thursday, April 30 — will be awarded a set of 25. Be as clever, smart, and original as you can!
