OK, so Pan Am is now a defunct airline. And you might travel in coach more than first class … But that doesn’t mean the luxury the “Pan Am” show calls to mind is off limits to you when you travel. —Christina Ricci in Manhattan magazine about her new show, “Pan Am” and the comparisons it is getting to the critics’ favorite, “Mad Men.” “Pan Am” is just one of two ’60s retro-inspired TV shows debuting this season: the other is “The Playboy Club.” I, for one, am a little skeptical about the influx of “Mad Men” knockoff shows, mostly because “Mad Men” is brilliantly incisive while “The Playboy Club” really looks like it’s glossing over some sexist awfulness and portraying it as really kitschy and fun. Thirteen is technically an unlucky number. But at their upfront presentation this morning, ABC announced that’s the magic number of new shows they will be premiering in the fall and winter.
