Starring In “Hedwig And The Angry Inch” Is Bringing Up All Sorts Of “Homophobic Insecurities” For Neil Patrick Harris

Starring-In-'Hedwig-And-The-Angry-Inch'-Is-Bringing-Up-All-Sorts-Of-'Homophobic-Insecurities'-For-Neil-Patrick-Harris

“Hedwig is bringing up a lot of super insecure things within me. I have never thought drag was intoxicating, I’ve never had a fun drunken Halloween in drag, never been in heels, really. I’ve lived my whole life being attracted by masculinity — it’s why I like guys. I’m not a super effete person, and I have to turn into that, and in doing so it brings up a lot of homophobic insecurities within myself.”

Neil Patrick Harris talks about starring in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” on Broadway and much, much more in this Out Magazine cover interview. You can always count on NPH to say interesting and provocative things, whether it be that drinking pineapple juice makes him “feel tropical” and makes his “semen taste delicious,” or that playing a character who dresses in drag is triggering his internalized homophobia. “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” is one of my all-time favorite plays, and when it ran off-Broadway the first time, I saw it 11 times because it was just so gripping and multi-dimensional for a one-man musical. I agree with creator James Cameron Mitchell, NPH is the ideal person to play the role. I can’t wait to see it. [Out]

“There comes some pressure in your mid-30s, and you think, Am I going to have kids so I don’t miss out on something that other people really seem to love? Or is it that I really genuinely want to do this with my whole heart? I didn’t feel that my response was ‘yes’ to the latter. You have to really want to have kids, and neither of us did. So it’s just going to be me and Ellen and no babies — but we’re the best of friends and married life is blissful, it really is. I’ve never been happier than I am right now.”

Portia de Rossi talks to Out Magazine about her decision not to become a mother. I like the distinction between not wanting to miss out and actually wanting to become a parent. I think it’s a smart one. I should probably start asking myself the same questions. Nah. I’ll put it off a while longer and think instead about the new season of “Arrested Development.” May 26th, baby. [DListed]

Posing 101: 13 Celebs Go Topless With Only Hands As Shields

If you’re a celeb or model posing topless on the cover of a “respectable” magazine, you’ve got to find a way to cover the naughty bits. Behold, one of the more popular magazine cover poses — the breast cupping. It’s a pose that says, “I’m topless! But you still can’t see my nipples! Mysterious.” Kathy Griffin had Jesse Tyler Ferguson do the honors on the cover of the latest issue of Out Magazine. Of course, she is paying homage to Janet Jackson’s 1983 cover or Rolling Stone. Here are 12 more celebs who’ve done the pose proud. [ONTD]

Under Cover Penis Lover

Sometimes you know a friend of yours is gay, but it’s hard to put into words. While Ryan from the “Real World: Brooklyn” tried to help Chet come out by strumming him a song, that awkwardly hilarious ditty didn’t work because Mormon Chet thinks being a metrosexual isn’t a “sin.” Sigh. Luckily, YouTube sensation Nuglah has stated the obvi in an even better techno track! It’s definitely a hot beat to dance out of the closet to. [World of Wonder] Keep reading »
