As a person with a moderate case of OCD, nothing stresses me out like a tangled mess of wires and electrical cords ruining the otherwise pristine ambiance in my home. So I fell in love with this sleek and compact plug hub that has room for a power strip, contains three cord anchors for hiding longer cords, and can either sit on the floor or anchor to the wall or even underneath a desk. I can’t wait until mine arrives in the mail and I can spend an evening drinking wine and finally tiding up the only eyesore in my precious abode. Shut up. This is the kind of night us OCD types live for. [$24.99, Quirky]
Whenever I go to my friend Henry’s house, he always pulls out some new tech toy or accessory that both confuses me and makes me want to run to the Apple store and drop a few hundred bucks. Last time I was over his new toy was decidedly low tech, but just as impressive: the Grid-It organizer. Basically it’s a flat organizer that uses a series of elastic straps to keep all your stuff — iPod, phone, earbuds, pens, notepad, camera, etc. — safely in place. They come in a variety of sizes and would make it super easy to switch purses in a snap! [$15-$25, The Container Store]
I don’t use an umbrella to shield me from the rain (it’s a Portland thing), but I am definitely not averse to using an umbrella to organize my rings. Especially a cute little silver umbrella like this. Adorable and practical? Be still, my soggy heart! [$12, Modcloth]

I have always been a hoarder at heart, prone to messiness and clutter. Remember on “Arrested Development” when Lucille Bluth is watching that news story about the mother who drove into a lake and she raises her martini glass and says, “Good for her”? That’s how I watch “Hoarders.” Some guy has collected thousands of Victorian hair wreaths? Good for him! Some lady hasn’t thrown out a Chinese takeout container in 50 years? More power to her!
When I moved in with my boyfriend I was forced to deal with my hoarding ways because they were threatening my relationship. I remember one night in particular when we were cleaning up the living room and I refused to throw away a little piece of torn cardboard. My boyfriend was sitting there saying, “Why do you need it?” and I was saying, “You know, for crafts?” and pretty soon he got annoyed and moved on to something else. I was curled up alone in a corner with my precious piece of trash feeling sort of victorious when I realized, dude, this isn’t normal. So I went to counseling and learned how to throw things away. Winter is about gray and drab colors. But it doesn’t have to be thanks to these Pantone-themed tin boxes. Add some color to your life with these handy and decorative items. Stack ‘em up to make a rainbow! Or stock up on them and use them as your holiday packaging (far more eco-friendly than wrapping paper).
Nothing will cause you to reevaluate your beauty product stash more than attempting to organize the usually prodigious, crummy mess. Even the most meticulous chick will admit to hiding a hot mess of broken eye shadows, four-year-old hot pink lipsticks and almost empty hairspray somewhere under her cupboard. Once you make the decision to get it together down there, you will see that you should make a new commitment to minimalism, and never again will you buy a sixth lip gloss willy-nilly. Well, for a few weeks anyway. After the jump, a few tips for getting it together. Keep reading »
I’m slightly OCD when it comes to organization, and one facet of my life that annoys me to no end are super long cords. From computer chargers to extension cords to TV power plugs, long wires somehow seem to overtake my room and apartment despite my best attempts to harness them. Thankfully here’s a quick solution, in the form of daisy chain knots. Lifehacker provides an easy to follow tutorial, which ends in a very fashion forward design that I’ve already fallen in love with. Maybe it sounds boring but trust, you’ll be like YEAH.
