We fell in love with Zach Anner when we saw his early submission to Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network’s “Next Reality Star” competition. Wheelchair-bound Zach, who was born with cerebral palsy, wanted to make a travel show, showing that his disability wasn’t going to stop him from exploring the world around him. Zach won us — and about a zillion other fans — over with his quirky humor, and lucky for him and all of us, Zach got his own show. These days he’s traversing the globe filming “Rollin’ With Zach.” Check out a short teaser above — featuring a theme song by John Mayer. [Oprah]

Oprah’s Still Got It

While some see Oprah’s fire walk as a publicity stunt to save OWN’s plummeting ratings, I see it as a sign that she hasn’t changed at all. She’s still the badass that took over daytime television and she intends to stay that way. She wouldn’t be Oprah if she didn’t come onstage with a wagon of fat, or live as a colonial woman for a week, or go on a road trip with Gayle, her not-lesbian lover. That is what Oprah does. She goes big. She makes noise. She goes to Anthony Robbins’ “Unleash Your Power Within” seminars and walks on hot coals to prove that those who achieve greatness take action. I refuse to hate on that. Mind over matter, girl! Show those coals who’s boss! [Limelife]

Is Oprah a Scientologist? Just Googling that question returns 127,000 results, so we know we’re not alone in asking.

On the heels of the announcement that Will and Jada Pinkett Smith would be guests on one of Oprah’s final shows, three things popped into my head: 1) random! 2) are they getting a reality series on OWN? and 3) man, she’s shared a lot of big, memorable moments with famous (alleged) Scientologists.

I mean, I’ve been convinced for months now that Oprah’s last show would be a tribute to her loyal viewers. Man Beats Self Up, Says He Was Robbed So Wife Won’t Suspect He Never Had Oprah Tickets

People will do anything to get their hands on tickets to the taping of Oprah‘s final episode. But one Canadian dude, Robert Spearing, went above and beyond. He and his wife traveled from Ontario to Chicago to see the show. Robert told her he had tickets—only he didn’t. He had to think quick in how to justify this situation—so he beat himself up, using a rock to bust his forehead and scraping his hands across the pavement so it looked like he was in a scuffle. He then called the police and said he’d been robbed of two Oprah tickets. Spearing has now been charged with disorderly conduct and filing a false police report. Girl Talk: I Went To “The Oprah Show” And All I Got Was…

I love Oprah. I’ve been watching her since I was a pimply teenager looking for diet tips and ways to attract a boyfriend. My dream was to become a journalist and interview newsmakers and celebrities just like she does.  I wound up a TV news producer and writer and — although I never got my own show or theme song — I thank Oprah for motivating me.

O and I have been through a lot together.  Big hair, shoulder pads, and several body types. We’ve also taken a spiritual journey as we grew up and began to recognize the world outside ourselves. The cynical will snicker, but I believe she encouraged me to be a better person. Her shows prompted me to read great books, be more generous with time and money, and better understand my fellow man. 

When I heard it was her last season, I wanted to make the pilgrimage to my hometown of Chicago to see her in person.  I lobbied everyone I knew who might have a connection until I scored tickets.  I booked my flight and shared my excitement with friends. Keep reading »

I cannot believe that “The Oprah Show” is coming to an end next week. Seriously, I’ve been watching since I was, like, eight and I always thought I’d make it onto her couch. I guess it’s time to let that dream go. Sigh. After 25 seasons, the Big O is filming her final three episodes. Insiders say the final shows will be over-the-top, star-studded extravaganzas. Like we would expect anything less. Celebs like Madonna, Maria Shriver, Beyonce, Barack Obama, Tom Cruise, and Katie Holmes are set to appear. God only knows kind of tomfoolery will go down.
