Hallelujah! Madewell Launches E-Commerce Site

We have sort of an obsession with Madewell at The Frisky, but we’ve rarely talked about the retailer because there are only a few stores nationwide. We thought it’d be wrong to tease with the product and then not deliver on buying info. But now everyone can get a taste of what we think of J. Crew‘s cool downtown sister because Madewell has launched an e-commerce site. We’re big fans of the lightweight cardigans and the jeans, which come in a variety of washes and are free to ship and return. Even though the whole collection doesn’t seem to be online now, there are a ton of chic urban-preppy items available. But you have to wait a few more months (fall to be exact) before you can shop the really cute looks from Alexa Chung for Madewell. [Madewell] Keep reading »

Net-A-Porter Sells Out Of $6,000 Alexander McQueen Dress—How Much Will You Drop Online?

When Net-A-Porter started up in 2000, it seemed doubtful that people would buy premier designer goods off the internet, sight unseen. But the times, they did change, and now we’re all online shopping. However, it still seems shocking to us that shoppers drop thousands of dollars through e-commerce sites. For example, this famous Alexander McQueen dress retails for $6,375 and is completely sold out on Net-A-Porter. Other items people are scooping up? A Marie-Hélène de Taillac’s 22-karat gold bracelet for $1,805, a Fendi embroidered tote for $6,980, and an Alaïa leather belt for $1,335. Who are these people, and can we be their best friends?

Do you have a limit on how much you’ll spend on an item online? Especially if you haven’t seen it in person or tried it on? [Net-A-Porter.com] Keep reading »

U.K. E-Tailer ASOS Launching In The U.S.

Come September, Asos.com, the U.K.’s largest multi-brand online retailer, will make a virtual leap across the pond to the U.S. This shopping site is already one of our favorites because it not only sells affordable trendy pieces, but also has an extremely large selection from brands like Gap, Levi’s, and Diesel. However, unlike other trendy sites like Topshop and Forever 21, ASOS also sells designer items from the likes of McQ by Alexander McQueen, Miu Miu, and D&G, to name a few. It’s pretty difficult not to find something to love amongst the 37,000 style options. The U.S. site will have prices in dollars and different vocabulary, i.e., a vest will no longer mean a tank top, I’m guessing. Items purchased from the U.S. site will still ship from the U.K., but an Atlanta, GA, logistics facility will handle returns from American customers. September can’t come fast enough. Gilt Groupe Expands Home Selection

If you’ve outgrown thrift store couches and dollar store home decor but don’t want to pay full price for fancy furnishings, today’s your lucky day. Gilt Groupe, the wonderfully addictive shopping site, is expanding its Gilt Home offerings to 15 sales per week from more than 200 brands, including Cuisinart, Ligne Roset, and Missoni Home. Prices will be low — up to 70 percent off retail — but since everything, from furniture to art, is for sale, you’ll probably end up spending more than you would on a trip to Ikea. For those of us who don’t have room for another armchair, smaller accessories and gourmet food are for sale, too, and I can attest that this stuff makes for great gifts — my mom got a set of candles from Gilt for Mother’s Day. NYU Students Dream Up Your Next Shopping Addiction

Watch out, Gilt Groupe. There’s a new sample sale site launching and fashion lovers will be just a teensy bit obsessed with it for one major reason. Instead of offering last season’s wares like so many discount stores and sites, ToVieFor plans to sell designer items from the current season’s collections. Two students at New York University’s Stern School of Business, Melanie Moore and Susanne Greenfield, created the website and were just awarded $75,000 in prize money for their invention, though you’ll have to wait until summer for the site to launch. You can expect sales prices 40 to 70 percent off current season handbags and accessories from brands like Ferragamo, Louis Vuitton, and Marc Jacobs. But here’s the catch: In order to place a bid, users are required to pay between $1 to $5 for each session (the site combines members-only and dutch-auction sale styles). But what’s a dollar when you’re saving on designer goods that aren’t sooo last season? [ToVieFor via NY Times] Keep reading »

Net-A-Porter’s “Jean Team” Will Make Your Denim Dreams Come True

In an apparent bid to make the Canadian Tuxedo cool, Net-A-Porter will open a denim e-boutique this Wednesday. Given Net-A-Porter’s history of awesomeness, we’re pretty excited about the whole thing. The site’s denim selection is already pretty legit, with everything from straight-up jeans to jackets to bags included, which makes us a little too excited. Yes, with names like J Brand and Victoria Beckham denim, most of it will be out of our price range, but it makes research for a jean splurge really, really easy. Plus, a Jean Team is on hand to help you find the right fit, and it never hurts to have someone tell you whether or not your ass is going to look good in them jeans. [Elle UK] Keep reading »

Rich People Shop At Kohl’s?

There are two types of wealthy people. Those who go on reality television to show off their private jets and bling and Caribbean estates. And then there are rich people who are also cheapskates, and won’t spend money on peculiar things, like clothes. (Come to think of it, Daddy Warbucks did wear pretty much the same outfit every day.) Or so it seems, according to surprising new research about where they shop. Check out the full infographic after the jump. Keep reading »

Fashion Writer Lynn Yaeger Buys Weird Dolls On Ebay

Apparently, iconic fashion writer Lynn Yaeger is obsessed with eBay. Since she first discovered the auction site about 12 years ago, Lynn has used it as a convenient alternative to flea markets and antique shows, snapping up an Hèrmes Kelly bag, multiple Becassine dolls, a bunch of Victorian children’s jewelry, and more (she used her high school French to purchase the Hèrmes bag on French eBay). It’s nice to know we aren’t the only ones addicted to this time-suck, scrolling through pages of items for hours on end! And not only does Lynn, who regularly contributes to Vogue, T, The New York Times Style Magazine, and other notable publications, troll the auction site every morning in search of her latest obsessions, but she’ll be contributing a few stories to eBay’s online magazine, The Inside Source, over the next few weeks. We can’t wait to hear her advice for scooping up fancy finds, plus, the photos of Lynn among her booty are priceless. [The Inside Source] Keep reading »
