Woo Hoo! H&M Online Shopping Is Coming Soon

I have a weakness for H&M. But going to the store can be pure hell between the crowds, the thumping music, and the epic fitting room lines. So I’ve always been annoyed that the retailer hasn’t offered online shopping for U.S. costumers—I mean, they have it in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Holland, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Well, now Americans are being invited to the party. The company tweeted earlier today, “Good morning is an understatement! H&M has decided to have online shopping in the U.S. at the turn of the year 2011/2012.” Nice. Here’s hoping two of our other favorites—Zara and Club Monaco (who sells a few pieces through Shopbop.com)—get the memo and start allowing us to online shop soon. [Refinery 29] Keep reading »

Rue La La Sells Rock & Republic Jeans For More Than 50 Percent Off

Rue La La, one of our favorite designer sample sale sites, kicked off its 48-hour sale of Rock & Republic jeans today. Rock & Republic is known for bringing their customer chic and edgy jeans and sportswear. Their jeans have come to symbolize luxury and status for today’s ambitious and fashion-forward generation. But even those with a more moderate budget than the typical Rock & Republic consumer can get the same look for less during Rue La La’s two-day sale. Rock & Republic jeans usually retail for about $200 or more, but Rue La La is selling them for about $80. If you’re not a member of Rue La La, it’s free and easy to sign up. But hurry before all the jeans sell out!

Rue La La sent me a pair of Rock & Republic “Stella” Bootcut Jeans to try out. See how I styled them after the jump. Keep reading »

For Designers Banking On Instant Gratification, “Seasons” May Become A Thing Of The Past

While we are die-hard Fashion Week fans, we’ve often griped about the frustration it brings because winter collections are shown in the summer, spring collections in the winter, and so on and so forth. With the way the fashion world is set up, it often feels like you can never see what you want and then buy it the same day—even when the season is off. We spend all this time immediately analyzing trends off the runway and devouring photos, but by the time the clothes are released, we’re on to the next thing and they almost seem like old news. According to New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn, we may begin to see fashion houses appealing more to the consumer’s instant gratification desire. Keep reading »

Awesome Sale Alert: Up To 50 Percent Off At APC

One of our favorite French brands? A.P.C. The simple yet classic goods are always a strong bet, but are (like so many good things) very expensive. Good news! Gilt Goes Auto-Style Again, This Time With Vespas

Will the idea of private sales for automobiles actually take off? We were pretty stunned when Gilt announced they were offering three VW Jettas for the insanely awesome price of $5,995. Sure, kinda crazy to buy a car off the internet … on a whim … from a clothing website, but we sort of dig the idea. Now it turns out Gilt is offering up Vespas. Racked reports that there are two models which price at $5,520 (down from $7,236) and $3,740 (down from $4,736). Can you feel the wind in your hair already? [Racked] Keep reading »

The Science Behind The Shopbop Redhead

Whether you’re a frequent buyer of Shopbop goods, or just peruse the site for style inspiration (we do), you have almost certainly noticed one glaring constant: the redhead model. She’s been a fixture on the site for six years running, and is instantly recognizable. Such a long tenure is perhaps now rare in the fashion industry when you hear reports of teenage models hitting the big time only to be forced to retire a few years later. But there’s a reason why Shopbop would stick with their signature model (there’s also a sultry brunette who often represents the brand). According to The New York Times, “A daily e-mail featuring either of these women acts as a Pavlovian trigger for customers to examine new arrivals on the site … ” But this tactic isn’t so much about mind games as it is knowing what the consumer likes to see. And, unsurprisingly, people like to see personalities. Relatable and familiar ones. OK, so maybe it’s kind of mind game-y. [New York Times] Keep reading »

Cyber Monday Online Deals Rundown

While there weren’t any death-by-tramplings this year on Black Friday (and thank goodness for that), we’d still rather avoid a holiday shopping crowd at all costs. So, hooray for Cyber Monday, which lets you skip the long register line and screaming kids and scoop up deals and savings in the privacy of your own home (or office cube—shhh, we won’t tell). After the jump, the online shops and deals you shouldn’t miss! Keep reading »

First Google, Now Tumblr Also Aids Fashion Game

While Google was feting its new shopping website (Boutiques.com) with acrobats and celebs like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Tumblr was playing host to a fashion launch. “Of a Kind” is the first e-commerce-type site of its kind to use the blogging service as their online platform. A sort of blog-cum-shop, the store rotates features on new and up-and-coming designers, both selling their wares and promoting them through blogging, or “storytelling” as they put it. For fashion-inclined Tumblr users, this lets them automatically see updates in their feed, which is a great way to put products on an audience’s radar.

It seems that increasingly the tech community is becoming fashion- and e-commerce-oriented. Think we can expect this wave of style technology innovations to continue? [Of a Kind] Keep reading »

Google Launches Boutiques.com Today!

On Monday we told you that we’d heard rumors about Google opening some type of e-commerce enterprise. Turns out it was true and the internet giant has just today launched Boutiques.com, a style inspiration-driven fashion search engine. It’s not so much e-boutique as it is aggregator à la Shopstyle. At Boutiques.com, you can follow influential style bloggers (Jane Aldridge, for example) to see their product picks, or search for items yourself. The site is clean, well-organized, and definitely presents you with overwhelming search results that weed out the junk. Check it out and tell us what you think! [Boutiques] Keep reading »
