Annie Lennox totally killed it during last night’s Olympic closing ceremony. The singer, who got her start as one half of The Eurythmics, performed a rousing, pirate-y rendition of her hit “Little Bird,” which stood out against the four (four!) Jessie J performances and Fat Boy Slim’s faux DJ-ing. We were reminded of Annie’s super original look, especially her standout style during her early years with The Eurythmics, and decided to try and copy her boyish look. After the jump, we give you our best go at Annie’s signature “Sweet Dreams” style, softened just a touch.

The Spice Girls Are Back And They’re Straddling Bedazzled Cabs!

You guys, look, it’s actually happening! This right here is photographic proof that the Spice Girls are hard at work rehearsing for their triumphant reunion performance at the Olympics closing ceremonies on Sunday. Titled “A Symphony of British Music,” the show will also include Adele, Muse, and members of The Who, The Kinks, and Pink Floyd. All the other acts are fine and good, but I mean, really, does it get any more British than Posh, Ginger, Scary, Sporty, and Baby rolling into the stadium on bedazzled cabs, flanked by dapper men in suits? Cheers! [Buzzfeed]

FRISKY Q&A
"We're A Team"

Natalie Hawkins is the mother behind gold medal Olympic gymnast Gabrielle Douglas. Sixteen-year-old Douglas managed to capture the gold medal in the women’s gymnastics all-around, and helped lead the U.S. women’s gymnastics team to the gold medal in team competition. But Gabby couldn’t have done it without the love and support of Natalie, who sacrificed time, money — and even keeping her family together — for her to succeed. Two years ago, Natalie allowed Gabby to move across the country to Des Moines, Iowa, to train with Shawn Johnson’s coach Liang Chow, and her sacrifice paid off.

Just days after Gabby’s ground-breaking win as the first African-American woman to win all-around gold in gymnastics at the Olympics, we spoke to Natalie about how she raised four kids — and an Olympic champion.

When Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, isn’t all glammed up for events, I think she is so freakin’ adorable. Is that disrespectful to say of a future princess? I just mean that she looks so relaxed and smiley, like a fun normal girl with exceptionally shiny, voluminous hair, that I want her to be my best pretty princess friend. Bonus points for looking downright fabulous in Yves Klein blue! So if we did happen to become best pretty princess friends, which is almost entirely possible, I would gently advise her to loosen up the vise grip on the black eye pencil, and steer her in the direction of a thin, clean liquid line on the upper lid. There is no reason that anyone, especially a girl as lovely and as married to Prince William as Kate, should be wearing such heavy-handed liner to a daytime sporting event (oh, just the Olympics). However, I will note that she is clearly magic, because she’s sitting in the sun and that stuff is not budging. I would die to know what’s inside Kate’s makeup bag, but I feel pretty confident that she will never, ever tell. That skin! It’s gotta be the bee venom.

As you may have heard, eight Olympic badminton players were recently disqualified from the women’s doubles competition for “not using one’s best efforts to win.” Apparently the real issue is that they were throwing matches to manipulate the tournament match-ups, but when I first read the headlines, I have to admit I was totally taken with the idea of being able to charge someone with the formal offense of “not trying.” I asked the rest of The Frisky staff who else we’d like to put on blast for “not using their best efforts.” Check out our list of underachievers after the jump, and feel free to add your own in the comments! “Downton Abbey” Left The Manor For The Olympics

The cast of “Downton Abbey” — both upstairs and downstairs — attended the Olympic Opening Ceremony last Friday. They posed for a group shot in front of the stadium, with Mr. Bates in something of a compromised position. But! Where’s the Dowager Countess? You know she wouldn’t dare mingle with the hoi polloi. And speaking of the Countess … the season three promotional cast shot is online, and it features some of the heralded new castmates and a foreboding dark sky (oooh symbolism!). Check it out after the jump!

Ryan Lochte is an Olympic gold medalist. He’s also an inveterate Twitter user/abuser. And man, does he ramble some strange shit. His Twitter paints him as the Olympics’ very own Brody Jenner. A bro of extreme magnitude whose love of Mountain Dew and the word “Jeah” (which signifies everything from “my taxes are astronomical” to “kind sir, would you please remove your boot off my neck”) is well-documented.

He’s also, perhaps, maybe, a terrible speller.

But all of that make his Twitter ramblings highly entertaining and definitely worth a look. That’s why we’ve selected out 11 of our favorite Lochte-isms, for your enjoyment.

18 Olympic Athletes Compete In The Battle Of The Bulge

You know what I love about the Olympics? (Besides the brawn, the insane mastery of skill, and the bringing together of so many countries in a peaceful display of healthy competition, of course.) The clingy, tight, flesh-grazing, aerodynamic fabrics of so many of the uniforms. Yes, that’s what it is…

Men (And Woman) Without A Country

There’s really no question about who was having the most fun at the Olympics’ Opening Ceremony on Friday: It was clearly the three adorable people representing the Independent Olympic Athletes. Liemarvin Bonevacia, Reginald De Windt and Philipine van Aanholt are all from the Netherlands Antilles, a collection of Caribbean islands that lost its independent statehood in 2010. Three of the islands merged into the Netherlands, while another two are now considered “constituent countries.” Unfortunately, the IOC, the governing body for the Olympics, ruled that the Antilles’ new status made it impossible for them to compete under an independent moniker.

A fourth athlete, marathoner Guor Marial, is competing for South Sudan, a country that just became independent in 2011 and was unable to set up a National Olympic Committee in time. Marial had apparently refused to compete in the Olympics under the Sudan flag, as several members of his family had been killed by the Sudanese regime. A visa problem — Marial trains in the U.S. — prevented him from attending the Opening Ceremony, but he should make it in time for his competition.
