How Do You Feel About Old Navy’s Booty Reader?

This morning, I saw this commercial for Old Navy jeans. In it, a row of women submit their butts to the scrutiny of … the Booty Reader. An Old Navy store has been quasi-converted into a state fair, where the aforementioned Booty Reader is like the old woman fortune teller in a glass case who predicts your future and doles out cards. Only, this time around, the fortune teller is played by one of those Old Navy mannequins, and if you bend over and stick your butt in her face, she issues proclamations about your jeans-clad butt like, “Those Sweetheart jeans make your booty smile from cheek to cheek.” That prompts all the other mannequins to start talking about their smiling booties and “happy booties.” Frankly, I don’t even really get what happens at the end, other than the Booty Reader falls over, I think from being overwhelmed by all the booty talk. When I watch something like this, I always wonder how much the company spent to make it — like, a million bucks, maybe, to come up with the concept? And how many meetings took place in which a group of serious-faced ad people considered all the different ways butts could be discussed in this commercial, including the “happy booty” idea? My butt is frowning over these questions. Update: Racked notes you can upload a photo of your butt to Old Navy’s Booty Reader website for a “booty reading” to find out what jeans are best for your derriere. It’s like American Apparel’s butt contest! Except, you know, not. Keep reading »

Get A Fashion Preview Of Old Navy Fall 2010

Old Navy is one of those stores that finds one item and just kills it – offering it in every color, variation and so on – so that if you wear it, you see yourself coming and going. However, there’s something kind of great about their fall 2010 line. Read more Keep reading »

Cheapskate: Old Navy’s Party Clothes

I was just having a look at Old Navy‘s website — it’s one of the few stores I can shop at lately without feeling guilty about spending money — and I was shocked by how totally cute their holiday clothes are this year. They’re perfect for all the parties that will be filling your social calendar during the next couple months. Check out a few of my favorites. Keep reading »

    Crave: The Post-Beach Cover-Up

A trip to the beach this weekend left me with some pretty nasty sunburns. Yes, I applied sunscreen. SPF 30, in fact. Apparently that wasn’t enough, and now I need to figure out what I can wear that won’t inflict more pain (and will distract my coworkers, who keep coming over to gawk at my crayon-red splotches). This blouse-y t-shirt from Old Navy will let my burns breathe while making me look slightly nautical. I did just come back from the seashore, after all. [Old Navy] Keep reading »

    Crave: Day-Glo Slides

These neon green slides ($10.40 from Old Navy!) probably don’t match any of your clothes, so they’ll go with everything. I don’t recommend painting your toes a bright color if you plan on wearing them because that would be totally ’80s and way too matchy-matchy. [OldNavy.com]

Crave: The Best Of Old Navy

Every season, amid piles of cotton t-shirts and tanks, you can expect a few awesome pieces at Old Navy. I’m obsessed with the tie-neck blouses and D’Orsay flats and plan to fight my way through disorganized racks of clothing after work. Must. Have. Purple. Shoes. [Old Navy] Keep reading »
