“I happen to think no one over the age of 10 should buy Crocs, unless you are Mario Batali.”

— Even though I think Nina Garcia is M-E-A-N to the people on “Project Runway,” I can’t deny she’s usually dead-on. And that goes double when talking about Crocs. [Racked]

Tim Gunn Talks Smack About Gretchen Jones Winning “Project Runway”

“Why did the villain win? Why? I could not believe it. Gretchen’s talented, and she’s not a horrible person. But was she the winner of the season? I don’t think so. The ‘Project Runway’ designers are like my kids. I love them all. I will say I love some more than others. And there’s some I wish I’d left in a basket.”

— Tim Gunn is still blabbing that it was wack that backstabbing Gretchen Jones won over sweet little Mondo Guerra on the most recent season of “Project Runway.” I’m glad he agrees the uber-talented Mondo totally got the shaft.

After the jump, Tim talks some smack about Michael Kors, on whom he blames Gretchen’s puzzling win: Keep reading »

Betsey Johnson Brings The Noise To “Project Runway”

Fans of the ’90s, tulle, and “Sassy” magazine, get ready! Ebullient designer Betsey Johnson will be the guest judge on tonight’s episode of “Project Runway.” Tonight, the designers will be asked to make wearable items out of party store supplies (crepe paper bolero, anyone?).

It’s a tough challenge — apparently one designer ends up in the hospital tonight — and we’re wondering how Betsey’s quirkiness will mix with Michael Kors’ wit and Nina Garcia’s steely reserve. Betsey’s crazy style would have probably been “auf-ed” by Heidi Klum and the rest of the P-Run gang, so we’re expecting sparks to fly at the judging table. Keep reading »

Nina Garcia Scares The Crap Out Of All The New “Project Runway” Designers

It’s that time again! “Project Runway” season 8 debuts tonight and PopSugar has video-chatted with the new designers. It’s a short video, but there don’t seem to be any obvious annoying cast members. I like the chick who asks herself, “What would Elvis do? And would ZZ Top be proud?” They’re all terribly afraid of judge Nina Garcia, though. Hmm, why would that be? (Kidding.) Does Nina Garcia’s New Target Affiliation Make You Respect Her More Or Less?

Nina Garcia of Project Runway, Elle, and Marie Claire fame has signed on to be Target’s “fashion expert.” The role will mean more videos for Target’s website and StyleBoutique blog, repping new developments for Target brands like Mossimo, and offering tips and tricks for making the most of the store’s budget clothes. This is a definite service for Target consumers, and if Garcia is attempting to be the Anti-Wintour, she’s certainly on her way — can you imagine Anna even touching a Target tee?! Nina Garcia Go Boom!

Why is “Project Runway” judge Nina Garcia sprawled on the sidewalk outside the Bryant Park tents at New York Fashion Week?

A) Tim Gunn turned into a tiny man, and she is trying to find him before he falls into a storm drain.
B) She saw a penny on the ground and is picking it up because that could be her lucky penny!!!!
C) It was icy. “Oh, sheesh,” she said, as every “Project Runway” loser within eye shot snickered.

Max Azria Joins The Cast Of “The Beautiful Life”

At this point, the cameos seem a lot more interesting than the plotline of upcoming prime-time drama “The Beautiful Life.” The show, which is centered around the lives of New York City models, has attracted a star-studded list of fashion industry types who play themselves, including designer Zac Posen and “Project Runway” judge Nina Garcia. Now add Max Azria, the man behind buzzy brands like BCBG Max Azria and Herve Leger. The designer is scheduled to appear as himself on an upcoming episode of the show, which debuts September 16 on the CW. Keep reading »

Quote Of The Day: Nina Garcia Thinks Trends Are “Ugh”

“I know some [trends] are available at very inexpensive prices, but you fill your closet with all this stuff that, in three months, you won’t want anymore. You’ll end up spending more money than you save. If you invest in something a little more expensive with longevity, you’ll use it more. How many girls do you see walking down the street in those faux-leather leggings? That trend is just like, ugh!”

— Nina Garcia, Fashion Director at “Marie Claire,” author of the new book The Style Strategy: A Less-Is-More Approach to Staying Chic and Shopping Smart, and judge on everyone’s favorite fashion reality show, “Project Runway,” which finally begins its sixth season tonight (!) on its new home, Lifetime. Fall Fashion T.V Bonanaza: Nina Garcia & Jazmin Whitley

Project Runway and the Fashion Show (if they ever even make it back on TV) should prep for some ferosh competition. Project Runway judge Nina Garcia, is adding another television show to her magazine editing and t.v show judging duties: acting. Garcia will be a guest star on Ashton Kutcher’s new series, “The Beautiful Life,” and has already filmed her scenes for one episode. Depending on how well Garcia is received by the audience, there’s a solid chance that her role could extend to more episodes. The show, which debuts September 16th also stars Mischa Barton and Elle McPherson. Hot on Garcia’s heels is Jazmin Whitley! Never heard of her? Starting tomorrow, you will. Keep reading »

The Five: Essentials In Our Closet

Project Runway‘s Nina Garcia has this new book out called The One Hundred. In it, she shares all of the items she thinks fashionable women should own. Well, we got to thinking about some of the items in our lives that are indispensable even though they’re a little more random than LBDs, pearl necklaces, or jean jackets. Here are five things that have made a difference in our style lives — share yours in the comments.

Textured Tights These are not an “investment piece,” per se. They cost less than $10 and will only last a couple wears, but your legs will look awfully fancy in them. [Photo: WeLoveColors.com] Keep reading »
