Another shocking move in the never-ending game of fashion industry musical chairs: Nicola Formichetti is out at Mugler! His departure (a “mutual decision”) is, as they say, Kind Of A Big Deal. The influential “fashion director” singlehandedly resurrected the French fashion house in his almost 3 years as creative director, transforming the staid old brand best known for its perfume into a trailblazer for innovative, avant-garde fashion.
Formichetti has his high-profile clients, particularly Lady Gaga, to thank for much of his monumental success — Formichetti has functioned as stylist to the pop icon since 2009… as in, he is responsible for Gaga’s infamous meat dress, meat-kini, and her male alter-ego Jo Calderone. In fact, it was Gaga who persuaded him to accept the job at Mugler — the floundering brand was in the market for a “multicultural young talent,” which they found in Formichetti. He’s also credited with “discovering” fully-tattooed Zombie Boy Rick Genest.
Any guesses as to where Formichetti will land next? Sources are saying Diesel, but I think it’s just as likely that we’ll see the young designer spin off into his own line. We wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up! [Fashionista]

– Thierry Mugler designer and Lady Gaga co-conspirator Nicola Formichetti, on statements published in W magazine claiming he is “anti-fat.” Formichetti took to his Facebook wall to deny the allegations, hence the last of punctuation etc. [Fashionista] Keep reading »
Since Lady Gaga’s little monsters clearly can’t get enough of their leader in body suits and crazy get-ups, here’s another way to stay up to date on her comings and goings. Nicola Formichetti, Gaga’s official stylist, has launched his own official Facebook and Twitter pages, and he’s already gone mobile upload-happy. Given the pair’s friendship and work relationship, we’d suggest following him in order to catch (yet another) glimpse at Gaga’s outfits. Or, you know, follow him because you like his styling skills.
